Oracle said Wednesday that it is acquiring Primavera Software, which makes project portfolio management software.

The purchase of Primavera--terms weren't disclosed (statement)--highlights how Oracle is content to acquire smaller firms instead of big bang purchases like BEA at the moment.

On Oct. 1, Oracle acquired Advanced Visual Technology, which makes 3D visualization software for retailers. Terms of that deal weren't disclosed either.

Oracle's plan is to assimilate these smaller firms into its broader offerings. In other words, Oracle is acquiring features. The company said that Primavera's technology will be used to create a global unit focused on enterprise project portfolio management, or PPM. PPM is used in industries such as engineering and construction, aerospace and defense, utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, and professional services.
