Oracle, HP renew their enterprise IT vows; Settle Hurd flap

By | September 20, 2010, 2:27pm PDT

Given all the hubbub surrounding Mark Hurd, the Oracle and Hewlett-Packard relationship was an open question. You’ll be happy to know that Oracle and HP have kissed and made up

The move was necessary.  Oracle and IBM appear to have detente and that can’t be good news for HP. Toss in an HP suit against Hurd and there’s some real friction between the companies.

But business is more important. Just as HP interim CEO Cathie Lesjak said last week.

In a statement, HP and Oracle said the two companies have “reaffirmed their long-term strategic partnership and the resolution of litigation regarding Mark V. Hurd’s employment at Oracle.”

Terms of this settlement were confidential, but HP said Hurd will protect HP’s confidential information while being a honcho at Oracle. In other words, HP determined that it made its point and a long suit was only going to expose more detail than it wanted.

Lesjak said that “HP and Oracle have been important partners for more than 20 years and are committed to working together” and collaborating in the future.

Oracle CEO Ellison said his company and HP will “continue to build and expand a partnership that has already lasted for over 25 years.”

The renewing of vows just warms the heart doesn’t it? Now Hurd can do what he was doing anyway—talking up Oracle.
