Podcast: Facebook Ads, Google's Android, phishing and tie strength

This week on the Dan & David Show we debate the import of Facebook Ads. David thinks that Facebook Ads will be a footnote in history, and I suggest that they are the start of a new experimental phase with more personalized, invasive and effective (for advertisers) ads based on a social graph.

This week on the Dan & David Show we debate the import of Facebook Ads. David thinks that Facebook Ads will be a footnote in history, and I suggest that they are the start of a new experimental phase with more personalized, invasive and effective (for advertisers) ads based on a social graph.

We also discuss Google's open source Android software platform for mobile devices, which could be a disruptive and innovative force in an industry practically frozen in time. David believes that Google may create its own fork of Java for its mobile platform.

I talk about Andrew McAfee's new way of framing the value of Enterprise 2.0, using the concept of relationship tie strength associated with different technologies. For example, weak ties, the people who you are strongly tied with but are likely sources of non-redundant information, matches up with social networking software.

David also rants about the need for the major email providers, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL, need to lead an industry effort to fix spam and phishing now.
