This week on the Dan & David Show, we continue our iPhone vigil as people line up around the country to get their precious device in a few hours. Many people have analyzed the iPhone value proposition, but at this point it's more of an emotional buy, and it is really cool. David points to issues such as the slow network, non-replaceable battery, virtual keyboard, lack of support for the A2DP stereo bluetooth/headset profile and no memory expansion slot.

We also talk about the ongoing Facebookmania and the rise of social applications, and Powerset, which is attempting to revolutionize search and take on Google in the process. David also shares some of his desktop virtualization adventures.

This podcast can be delivered directly to your desktop or MP3 player if you're subscribed to our podcasts (See ZDNet's podcasts: How to tune in). For more the topics covered during the show, search our blog.

Note that our podcasts are now searchable thanks to Pluggd's HearHere technology. Type in a search term, such as "powerset," and it shows you on a heat map (the green stripes below) where the term is used, so you can go directly to that part of the podcast. Cool!

  • A over hyped phone

All I've seen in the past few years is companies doing their marketing with seeing how many people will be standing outside of stores, and of course the morons will stand out there. Xbox, PS3, Wii, now Iphones. I saw the news this morning and the news station was at a apple store only 13 people stood in line for a over priced phone from apple. If you expect it to drop in price think again folks because that greedy Steve Jobs nevers lowers his price. because of that thats why MAC's don't sell well like PC's.

As for the Iphone this is something that is just over blown, do you need a phone that plays videos, music, surf the web? to me I don't think so I need a Cell phone to talk to someone I don't need to be intertained by my phone. This is just another peice of useless crap that companies put out that say will better our lives. Remember you have to be a rocket scientist to know how to operate these things. For example who will the elderly use it? I don't think the elderly will not care. We can also hear the stories of someone got their Iphone stolen because they were not paying attention to what was going on around them. Iphone now whats next a 32 inch I-TV?

Also with the Iphone out you probally can say good bye to Ipods because Steve Jobs will stop making them and force everyone to Iphones. Remember Steve Jobs is in it for the money, and the next best item that he can put out.

hmmm, iPhone mobile communications unit combined with the communal aspects of
the Facebook phenomenon. I see a revolution happening here!
