President Obama schedules Google+ Hangout for January 30

By | January 23, 2012, 8:24am PST

Summary: Even the President of the United States will be using Google+ as of next week when he responds to “a selection of top-voted questions you’ve submitted in a live-streamed interview” on January 30.

President Obama is turning towards another relatively new social media source to take questions from Americans, this time in partnership with Google and YouTube.

Yes, even the President of the United States will be using Google+ as of next week when he responds to “a selection of top-voted questions you’ve submitted in a live-streamed interview” on January 30.

The event will be streamed live at 5:30 PM ET/2:30 PM PT next Monday on the White House’s YouTube station, and interested participants have until midnight ET on January 28 to submit questions.

The event is also just a few days after the State of the Union this Tuesday, so that also might provide extra fodder for questions and debate.

Last summer, President Obama hosted a “town hall” meeting of sorts with a live webcast and questions submitted via Twitter.

Hangouts is one of those features on Google+ that separates the platform from other social networks as the video conferencing app can really serve both personal and professional needs.

Google has been trying to boost awareness about this feature since the social network debuted last July, but this is arguably the biggest publicity push that Hangouts has seen since then. It will be interesting to see if and how Hangouts is used throughout this year’s presidential race and what other companies and personalities will take advantage of it.

Google also published the following promo video below in case you’re looking for topics to spur ideas and possible questions to ask the POTUS:

Twitter in chief now becomes Google+ in chief..
A desperate act to "look cool" by a complete failure. When is the sax coming out?
@timspublic1@...
Seems "complete failure" is a bit of a stretch.
@hoaxoner Not in my opinion. What has he done? I mean HIM, not something that was started by Bush. What? Nothing...that Americans wanted...PLEASE don't bring up the Health Care mess. I for one don't like being forced by the Fed, or to pay for useless people who won't work for a living. But hey, his Aunt and Uncle are pretty happy about the American Taxpayers footing their bills. Just because they are illegals and were at least living in government provided housing...while being here illegally...which Obumer knew all about and didn't do anything regarding. What a hero. Oops, meant zero.
