Verizon Wireless will reportedly offer a monthly data plan that is less expensive than the existing unlimited data plan but will also impose limits on its usage, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal today.

However, unlike AT&T, which eliminated an unlimited plan for new customers when it introduced tiered data pricing back in June, Verizon Wireless is eyeing this move as a holiday promotion, the WSJ reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. It may not be offered permanently. AT&T allowed existing users to keep their unlimited plans.

The plan, priced at $15 for 150 megabytes of data, will be available on Oct. 28 and will require a two-year contract for new customers. Existing customers will have the option of keeping their current plans or moving to the less expensive option.

Engadget reported the news first, citing its own unnamed sources, and is updating its post with more details.

Why do we still call 5gb of data unlimited? Verizon limits their "Unlimited"data to 5GB! it's never been unlimited!!!!!!
