Survey: 52% of consumers are overwhelmed by daily deal emails

Summary: Chances are that if you’ve signed up for even just one or two daily deal email subscriptions, you probably feel inundated by such messages now. If so, you’re not alone.

Chances are that if you’ve signed up for even just one or two daily deal email subscriptions, you probably feel inundated by such messages now. If so, you’re not alone.

According to a recent study by PriceGrabber, American consumers want the “shortcut to the greatest deal,” but more than half of the survey participants are not as excited about the daily deal craze anymore.

Here are the highlights by the numbers:

  • 44% of respondents use or search daily deal web sites
  • 52% of respondents feel “overwhelmed by the number of bargain-boasting emails they receive on a daily basis”
  • 60% of respondents said the daily deal business is too crowded
  • 78% of respondents bought local deals because “they like saving money”
  • 19% of respondents bought deals for new services that were above their normal price ranges
  • 86% of respondents shared where they found “great” deals with family and friends

For reference, the study incorporated the responses of 2,088 online consumers in the United States, and the survey was conducted from May 20 to 25, 2011.

There are a few remedies to this problem, such as subscribing to yet another service such as YipIt or AmazonDeals (once it’s available in more areas nationwide) that serves as an aggregator for all these emails.

But really, the sheer number of daily deal sites has ballooned exponentially since the beginning of the year to the point where these promotions don’t actually stand out as deals anymore but rather just look like any other online ads.

If you find that you’re getting too many daily deal emails, check out this quick guide on how to automatically filter these messages in Gmail.

@tatiGmail Exactly. And stop reading Lifehacker while you're at it! happy Seriously, it's just another fad, and as this article notes, there's always a "Web 2.0" solution for problems caused by another "Web 2.0" solution....
