President Obama is headed for Northern California - and tech will play a big part of the president's visit.

Details of the overnight trip to the San Francisco Bay Area today are starting to leak out - and while President Obama isn't scheduled to make any public appearances while in the region, he will reportedly attend a private dinner with Silicon Valley leaders, including Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

Innovation in America was a key part of President Obama's most recent State of the Union address - so it only makes sense that he would want to sit down and have a discussion with the heads of the companies that have been among the biggest disruptors.

The White House hasn't confirmed details of the president's schedule but White House Press Secretary confirmed Zuckerberg's presence when reporters asked if the two might discuss the role of social sites during political unrest in Egypt and other countries and he replied that the conversation would be centered around innovation.

On Friday, the president is scheduled to travel to Oregon, where he will visit an Intel manufacturing facility.

      Yeah, well good luck in life with all that.

      More importantly, please contribute something to say about technology on a tech forum. I see about 5% topic (technology breeding success) and 95% stale, hateful rhetoric sold by old thinking (hate breeding hate). Focus more on the 5% please in terms of technology. That would be great to read and learn from. Anyone can complain whether right or wrong. Please make a difference on this earth. We have enough of the same.

  • The real agenda of this meeting.

    The president just bought an iPad and wants to know how to use facebook and google apps.

    What? No Steve Ballmer? The most brilliant creative, innovative, technical visionary in the industry isn't invited? I guess Obama must have taken a hard look at their stock performance for the past 10 years. To think 10 years ago, Microsoft was worth 10 times that of Apple. Apple is also worth over 100B then MS in stock value. I guess if I was Barack, I'd pass over the sweaty monkey too. Makebe Uncle Fester should start a new hobby, like retirement.

    • Only Democrats are invited

      @gtdworak
You have to know by now that President Obama will onlt eat dinner with those tha contributed to his campaign.

      By the way, Steve Ballmer has a load more money then you, guess that's why he's a CEO, and you're a troll?
      Kinda's sucks to be you. Thatnk Me I'm not.

        @AllKnowingAllSeeing Microsoft is largely democrat (at least, Bill Gates is)...
        Roque Mocan
    • Yes, correct, he wants to talk to the innovators / disrupters. MS does not

      fit into that category. Like you point out, Butthead is an idiot, and Obama wants to talk to intelligent people.

      @gtdworak
      even a 'know nothing politician' like obama knows that M$ is toasted and irrelevant.
      But obama still missed the real innovation that's coming from FOSS and is misguided about his WTF strategy.

    • Obama already bought Ballmer dinner

      @gtdworak
Ballmer has had dinner with Obama already.

h t t p://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/10/AR2010121006226.html?hpid=topnews

      Obviously Obama would meet the important people first.

    Is Steve Jobs really going to be there? Last I heard (through digg for what its worth) was that he checked into a cancer clinic. Does this mean he's getting better and well enough to be at dinner functions?

    Finally learning where jobs come from? Heh. Two+ years of on the job training. Maybe by the time his term is up he'll be a capitalist. Not holding my breath though....
