Steve Jobs, perhaps the brightest star of the technological universe, passed away Wednesday. He was 56. At a 2005 commencement address he looked ahead to his own mortality, saying:

"Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important."

What was truly important to Steve? His work, which revolutionized the fields of computers, graphics, industrial design, entertainment, communications, and more. His passion for that work showed through in his designs, his attention to detail, and his lively stage presentations.
