A look at Opera Mini 4.2 beta running on the T-Mobile G1

Summary: While browsing the Android Market yesterday I found Opera Mini 4.2 beta ready for download. Last night I put together a video showing the browser in action and browsing along with the default G1 browser. You can also check out my image gallery for screenshots of the Opera Mini 4.2 beta browser.

As you can see in my video the browser is not as good as the default browser in most respects, but features like the Opera Link synching of bookmarks and notes make it a compelling solution. I prefer Opera Mini on my S60 devices due to the shortcuts available and speed. Here in the U.S. the G1 is only available with an unlimited data plan, but if you ever use it on a metered plan or when traveling overseas then you are definitely going to want to use this browser and reduce your data consumption.

I was pleased just to see another choice in web browsers on the T-Mobile G1 as this helps confirm that the Android is open to developers to bring solutions, even if there is an application integrated into the OS. I doubt you will see Opera Mini on the iPhone.
