Nokia announces the Lumia 710 and 800 Windows Phone 7.5 Mango devices

Summary: Nokia has to be the worst at keeping secrets and there are no real surprises here with some top notch devices running Windows Phone 7.5.

I think the Nokia N9 is one of the best pieces of smartphone hardware I have ever held and I am seriously thinking of buying one for $750+ on ebay. We heard LOTS of rumors of Nokia's Windows Phone plans, some of which were revealed by Stephen Elop himself, and today we heard Nokia announce the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800.

The Nokia Lumia 710 reminds me a bit of the HTC Radar 4G with a white finish and looks to be the lower cost, mid-level Windows Phone device for those moving onto a smartphone. Specifications of the Nokia Lumia 710 include the following:

  • Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS
  • 3.7 inch ClearBlack AMOLED display (N9 is 3.9 inches)
  • 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor
  • 1GB RAM and 512MB ROM
  • 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics
  • 8GB internal memory with microSD card expansion capability
  • 1300 mAh battery
  • Price of EUR 270

The Nokia Lumia 800 is the same basic form factor as the Nokia N9 with a physical camera button and capacitive hardware buttons below the display since these are minimum specifications dictated by Microsoft. Other features of the Nokia 800 include the following:

  • Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS
  • 3.7 inch ClearBlack AMOLED display (N9 is 3.9 inches)
  • 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor
  • 1GB RAM and 512MB ROM
  • 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics
  • 16 GB internal memory
  • 802.11 b/g/n WiFi
  • 1450 mAh battery
  • Price of EUR 420

There were rumors of a Nokia 900, but that did not materialize and was a fake out. I would love to buy a Nokia 800 that is coming to France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and Netherlands in November. Those of us in the U.S. won't see a Nokia Windows Phone until early 2012.

The 710 will surely appeal to women.
I like the 800, especially for the 1.4GHZ processor and the RAM, I am sure this is a super fast phone.

Is 1.4 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor correct? . I thought its single core.

The only let down is that these phones don't have a front facing camera . With Skype on the horizon, its a big miss

@owlnet I was under the impression it was single core too.

So, 16 GB of RAM and no expansion capability? It's already too small to hold both my pictures and my music. I think I waited for nothing.

@bmgoodman I know man. I totally agree with you. But other than Android phones, no one gives that flexibility. Its sad that Microsoft is going Apple route. They should allow external memory, I am having a hard time understanding the reason they can't support this, especially when WM 6.5 was able to support it.

Looks like a very nice phone. Just got to wait for Verizon to get it.

@LoverockDavidson_ According to TIMN, there were Verizon reps at Nokia World today, so Verizon customers just may get this device!
