Skype Lite now available for more mobile devices, including the E71

Summary: I've used multiple clients, like fring, on my S60 devices to try to connect to Skype. I was very pleased when Jason Harris, Techcraver, posted on Twitter about an official Skype Lite version for S60 devices. You can visit the Skype website to find the application and load it on your S60 device. You can also visit skype.com/m in your mobile browser to download and install the application on your device.

  • not quite what I was hoping for

This just makes skype calls over the normal phone call mechanism. It doesn't use the data connections available. I was hoping to be able to do video calls from my E71 to friends using skype on their desktop, but not quite.

I really fail to see the advantage of this over just calling the person on my cell?

    • Skype Lite on Nokia E66

I'm intrigued as to why the Nokia E66 is not on the list as it runs the same OS as the E71.

    • Foreign calls are the big advantage!

I actually just used iSkoot on my T-Mobile G1 last week (works just like this Skype Lite program using your cell minutes to jump on the Skype network) to call another writer in Germany and talked for 30 minutes. All it used was my cell minutes and with as many of those as I have using a service like this is an extremely CHEAP way to make international calls.

It's a great move for Microsoft, trying to gain on the iPhone... Skype has Windows and Lite for non-smartphones. There's an interesting <a href="http://www.atelier-us.com/mobile-wireless/article/skype-updates-apps-for-windows-mobile-and-non-smartphones-not-apple" title="article here">article here<a/>.
