T-Mobile USA provides BlackBerry Curve 4.5 update

T-Mobile USA provides BlackBerry Curve 4.5 update

Summary: I already upgraded my Sunset BlackBerry Curve to firmware 4.5 using an official RIM update for another country, but TmoNews just posted that the official T-Mobile USA 4.5 update is now available for the BlackBerry Curve 8320. This is the Curve with UMA support so if you don't have one of these then I don't recommend risking the update. You can visit the T-Mobile BlackBerry update page to get the software and update your device.

Simply download the update file and closely follow the directions to update your device. I plan to update to this T-Mobile USA version as soon as my MSI Wind arrives tomorrow since I have not other PC to use for the update. According to TmoNews, this is what is included in the update:

  • Video recording and HTML e-mail formatting
  • Attachment download and editing (DataViz's Documents To Go applications)
  • myFaves 1.5 update for more icon support
  • Enhancements and stability improvements to wireless network interaction, UMA, Messaging, Media Player, Web Browser, Phone application, Bluetooth, and more.
  • GSM/EDGE Toggle

I found the HTML email, video recording, and MUCH better browsing experience to be the main benefits of the 4.5 update on my Curve and it is going to be very tough for me to give up my Curve and go with the T-Mobile G1 tomorrow when it arrives. I hope I can still use the Curve with the G1 data plan and will definitely be trying it out since the Curve is a fantastic device.
