The latest rumors surrounding the release date of AMD's Bulldozer, or FX series, or Zambezi, desktop processors have them coming sooner than later (for a change). After being bumped from September to October, they now apparently will debut on October 12.

Better still, the price keeps dropping on them. The top Bulldozer, the eight-core FX-8150, should cost around $245, while another eight-core, the FX-8120, will be priced at just $205. The six-core FX-6100 will run $175.

At that price, the FX-8150 should seriously undercut the price of the Intel Core i7-2600K (currently around $315), unless Intel decides to drop its price. Considering that it is rumored to be readying the i7-2700K for release soon to counter the Bulldozer launch, Intel may very well be planning to make the i7-2600K more affordable.

    WANT. Apparently AMD overclocked the FX-8150 to 8429mhz :o Obviously their OC gear is somewhat industrial, but it bodes well for their regular benchmarks ^^

      @Imrhien

      Yes they did. I believe they used helium cooling and from what I read the overclockers are actually going to sell a setup like that.

      @VONDRASHEK@... I work at intel and haswell is not out till 2012-13. Ivy bridge is the next big thing. Either way I still like amd.

    hope the drop in price isnt a reflection of poor performance

    So tired of people saying just because it's inexpensive, it has poor performance. Let's wait for the REAL benchmarks!

      I have always been happy with AMD's performance. When it comes down to comparing cost and performance ratio I find AMD processors are pretty much on par with an Intel in a similar price bracket when it comes to real world performance. I have yet to find the person that can tell the difference between a game running at 60FPS over 70FPS. Some tasks you may save a few seconds here and there but I found it was better to save some money on an AMD processor and invest that into a better video card and SSD. My Phenom X4 blows away my brother's Core i7 that cost hundreds more just because of those two reasons.

    Allready gave up waiting on Bulldozer and grabbed a 1090T. I'll wait for the benchmark reviews and see where we go from there

    • The 1090T is still great bang for the buck

      @troutmonkey@..., I have a 1090T as well and couldn't be happier. I have to tax it A LOT for it to even consider gasping and panting. I chose it because of the Black Edition features, but so far I've felt no need to overclock it at all. I also don't envision myself upgrading it any soon: in the unlikely event that it starts to get slow, THEN I'll overclock it. And nothing like being able to dedicate two cores to a virtual machine and still keep a quad-core for tasks in the host... The 1090T is definitely not "passe'" yet, it's awesome value for its price and I still recommend it - especially as the last stock units after Bulldozer will probably be dirt cheap, making amazing deals out of it. The 1055T will probably be an even better deal for most users' needs.

      @troutmonkey@... +1
      My DAW system is running 1090T, 8GB 1600MHZ RAM (CL9 but looking at running at 1333 and pushing to CL8) with 2 previous gen SSD's (intel v40 as OS and OCZ Vertex as recording drive) with a WD scorpio black as storage/home drive ... it is very fast and very cool.... at stock clocks at this stage.. no need to go up ..(then again I'm running Linux with fluxbox as wm.. so not wasting RAM or clocks and making use of all 6 cores as much as possible)

  • SORRY INTEL

    Too bad Intel are sophisticated on their prices, They lost me when i bought the Phenom II x2 and unlocked to X4...Its blows any game I have thrown at it without any hiccups. This is why AMD is kicking Intel's butt lol. AMD ROCKS for the price and performance ratio and also just because the AMD processors are cheap does not mean they are poor in performance, I bet Intel is the one that started that rumor lol.
