Manufacturers are churning out solid state drives at an ever-quickening pace, though the number of truly distinctive ones is limited. But OCZ has just launched a pretty compelling concept in the form of the RevoDrive Hybrid, which packs both a traditional hard drive and an SSD onto a PCI Express card.

For $499.99 the RevoDrive combines a 1TB hard drive for mass storage with a 100GB SSD for superior performance for boot-up and app loading; by using the PCI Express form factor, OCZ can promise superior bandwidth over a SATA interface. The company says bandwidth can reach 910Mbps, though it did not state if that was for maximum read or write speeds. It also claims that "advanced caching algorithms" will learn user behavior in order to maximize the application performance.

Though there's a listing on Amazon, the shipping date is still at least a month out, and no other online retailers seem to have the RevoDrive Hybrid listed yet, despite OCZ's official launch press release. But enthusiasts might want to put this on their holiday gift lists as a one-stop storage solution.
