Next week, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan will pay a visit to Facebook's headquarters in Palo Alto, California. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg will be conducting a live-streamed video interview with the three men over on Facebook Live.

The official Facebook Event, titled Facebook Live with House Republican Leaders, is scheduled for 3:00 PM PDT / 6:00 PM EST on September 26, 2011. If you have questions for the three Republican leaders, you can post on the event's Wall in hopes that they will answer one of them during the interview.

According to the announcement, the trio will "talk about what they're doing in Washington D.C. to help the U.S. economy rebound and how technology is changing the way government works." The three leaders are sometimes referred to as the "Young Guns" since they co-authored last year's paperback, "Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders."

The Republican Party isn't very popular on Facebook. It has some 160,000 Facebook Likes on its official Facebook Page. The Facebook interview is clearly an attempt by the party to grow its online following.

The last two people to visit Facebook's headquarters were Oprah Winfrey and US President Barack Obama. Something tells me this one won't be as popular as the last two.

Sorry, a Linux socialist cheering for Republicans? You do know your software is free right? Oh and don't be insulted - in the rest of the world, socialist is actually a compliment ;-)

If only my company could pay more taxes, then I would be able to hire more people. Is that stupid or what.

Let the market build the economy. Govt, protect our borders, protect your people.

One day, direct representation. Until then, the public trough, an oligarchy and no satisfaction with the elected or the choices available.

  • Humor?

That is kind of funny...most of the Republican efforts at disenfranchisement are aimed at some of the heaviest users of Facebook: College students.

Disgusting. Why would I want to watch a bunch of rich ignorant blowhards blah blah blah their way though their garbage. They've received tons of tax breaks and bail outs and still have not created any notable job growth numbers. Wnen you're part of a team (the U.S. in this example) you play for the team. You take a hit for the team. You may lose a a few cents on your returns for a while, but you'd do alot to help the economy if you'd just hire so people could get back up and spend. So, I could care less. I could not think of a group of people that are more Anti-American than "that" party.

@mlbslugger lol! Cuz corporations are people too, my friend...yes they are... per that bastion of defending middle-class Americans, "Mittens" Romney.

    • You DO remember

@mlbslugger The saying about the cart before the horse? What, exactly, would these new hires do for the company hiring them? A company spending money to hire someone typically wants them to be able to do something that will earn back the exployment expense. Until there is demand, a company would be cutting its own throat to hire more employees.

And, speaking of tons of tax breaks, how many trillions of dollars have been spent on President Johnson's "war on poverty" since the mid 1960s? Didn't I just read that we have reached a new high water mark of poor as a percentage in this country? I'm not without empathy. Honestly I'm not. I wish everyone could succeed. But maybe what we've been doing for most of my life isn't actually working? Maybe something different needs to be done instead of massive handouts?

I don't think calling Republicans "rich ignorant blowhards" helps advance the country towards a path out of our problems. Do you? Name calling is for the lower grades of school and only creates more animosity in the public forums that are needed to reach a conslusion. How do you define "rich"? Anyone with more than you? I'm guessing that many Republicans have less than you. Are you rich? How about "ignorant"? Ignorant of what particular facts? We are all ignorant to some degree. There are things unknown to all of us, including you, most assuredly. And "blowhard"? Really? What makes Republicans any more "blowhard-y" than Democrats or Independents?

So, what will you do on the 26th? Will you ignore (the root word of ignorance, by the way) the congressmen and miss what they have to say or will you participate and either make a valid point that shines a light on their mistakes? Or maybe you could watch with an open mind and decide fairly if what they say just might make sense.

Whatever you do, I hope that you'll participate in good faith with our system of government and do it with the good of the country in mind and without name calling. If you have objections, be specific and if they are valid, you will sway people to your side.

Good luck to you in the future. I wish you success.

  • So Facebook Has A Liberal Bias!

How are Republicans going to get a fair deal when the whole Internet is so left-wing? Clearly they need to set up their own answer to Facebook--sort of the Glenn Beck of social networking.
