Steve Jobs: "I admire Mark Zuckerberg."

Summary: Before he died, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs said Facebook dominated the social networking space and that he admired Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who passed away earlier this month, was critical of most companies and their CEOs. It may therefore be a bit surprising to learn he had positive things to say about Facebook as well as its co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

"You know we talk about social networks in the plural but I don't see anybody other than Facebook out there," Jobs told biographer Walter Isaacson in an interview excerpt released online by CBS News. "It's just Facebook - they're dominating this. I admire Mark Zuckerberg. I only know him a little bit, but I admire him for not selling out. For wanting to make a company. I admire that a lot."

If you want to hear Jobs say the quote himself, see the 1:59 minute mark in the video above. This particular clip also shows Jobs criticizing Microsoft and Google, and also touches upon his complicated relationship with Bill Gates.

Let's look at Cupertino and Palo Alto again. Until recently, the Apple-Facebook relationship was widely accepted to be a very strained one. There have been at least three episodes we've heard about that has resulted in hate between the two companies. The first had to do with iOS, the second had to do with Ping, and the third had to do with the HP TouchPad.

Facebook was supposed to be integrated into iOS 4. Cupertino wanted to code its own Facebook features because it lacked confidence in Palo Alto's ability to build a great app, so it built the social network into its mobile operating system. Facebook said no and negotiations broke down. Apple then went with Twitter in iOS 5.

When Apple debuted Ping, it announced Facebook integration as a feature, but did not get permission from the social networking giant. Facebook denied Apple from using Facebook Connect in Ping because Cupertino didn't give Palo Alto any warning about the feature, which would have cost a lot of bandwidth for Facebook. Apple was forced to remove the integration.

Before the HP TouchPad was released, Steve Jobs learned about the webOS Facebook app during his summer visit to Palo Alto. Jobs was furious since Mark Zuckerberg had previously promised him that its first-ever tablet app would be for the iPad. Fearing his company's relationship with Apple would be ruined for good, Zuckerberg vowed to get the app pulled, but Jon Rubinstein, the former CEO of Palm and then the GM of HP's webOS division, refused to halt its release. Facebook responded by restricting HP's access to its APIs.

The relationship between the two technology giants started to turn around this year, however, possibly because they both share a mutual enemy: Google. Earlier this month, Facebook finally released its official iPad app. At the same time, when the company ported the Facebook Platform to the mobile world, it chose to start off with support for Apple iOS.

Now what are we going to do with the mountains of iJunk sold to suckers over the years at $800-$9000 a pop?(I think the "admire Mordechai Zucherburg" comment is planted to further trump up the spy-site, FaceBook, and Zucherberg) think Now watch the Ashkenazi-controlled media do its most aggressive and deceptive advertising and promotion campaign for Crapple, iJunk, Steve and his ashkenazi iCronies and iMoles, in history--all for Free!
Never did get an apology for being lied to and having my stock options stolen while I was working in that sh*t hole, and everyone at crapple is too terrified to talk to anyone about it in fear of retaliation.

I admire the guts and determiniation to start a company from scratch, and build it into something. I don't admire the infighting and backstabbing it takes to stay there.

Innovation and new ways for technology to be affordable and make our lives better is a worthwhile goal. Maintaining a status quo isn't.

Neither Jobs Nor Zuckenberg are necessarily targets for my comment. I don't care for, or use either company's products.

Am I sorry that he died...you bet...am I sorry he died a early and awful death you bet....

But am all iSteve iJobesed out....

The more I read this latest few articles...I realize that Jobs may have been brilliant but he also was a petty, vindictive & childish...for years he railed against MS saying they wanted to put Apple out of Biz...yet he settled with MS...but now he has Apple suing everyone instead of settling....AND WON'T SETTLE. There are hundreds of patents involved in making a smartphone...it's gotten to the point that you can't breath and have Apple sue you...

In addition now matter how high is IQ was he decided to not deal with his denial of his cancer and took herbal treatments...thus condemning himself to a certain death....the almost 10 months he waited caused his cancer to spread beyond any chance of effective treatment...

He didn't believe in what the customer wanted in a product only what he wanted...so you have the iPhone without a chance of having an actual keyboard...he had the nerve to say it's because keyboards aren't reliable...which is complete bull...I've had 4 smart phones in 12 years...way before Apple even made the iPhone and none of the keyboards were an issue....same thing with a battery...he wanted it microns thinner so no user replaceable battery....the real reason is so you would have to pay them to have the battery changed...
His iProducts & the iGod phone are what he wanted NEVER what we wanted...

Of course, they aren't in competition. If Apple had tried to launch a social networking site, I'm sure Zuckerburg "Just doesn't get it"

OMG.. he's gone. Wake me up when the SJ tributes, fanfare, reminiscing, if-only's, and sucking the SJ D.. fantastic are over, so I can get back to reading relevent articles/posts. This proves Apple isn't a company, it's a GD cult of freakish people wanting to be part of something 'greater', lighting candles, and pretending they knew someone intimately by using one of his overpriced products. It's also due to a chemical imbalance that draws people to an endorphin rush as a crutch against their own inadequacies and lifelong failures. Sounds a lot like a religion, actually. Worse part, after the lead player dies, it's as if immortality has been reached, and we may never hear the end of this.. ugh.

Mark my words, there will be a movement to create a new epoch to follow BC and AD... called ASJ... That is when I gather ammo and go into hiding.
