Who will replace Mark Hurd as HP CEO? I have some suggestions...

By | August 6, 2010, 9:21pm PDT

Summary: Who is capable of replacing Mark Hurd as CEO at HP? Zander? Maloney?

Who will replace Mark Hurd as CEO of Hewlett-Packard?

I’d love to hear your suggestions.Here are some of mine:

- Sean Maloney is Intel’s number 2 executive and one of its best. He is back at work after being sidelined by a small stroke and would make an excellent CEO. There isn’t much room at the top at Intel, since Paul Otellini is 59 and likely to stay in the CEO job until 65. Mr. Maloney is just 53.

- Scott McNealy is currently unemployed, following Oracle’s acquisition of Sun Microsystems. Sun and HP are very similar businesses.

- Steve Mills is an IBM veteran and the second most powerful executive in the global enterprise software business. He has run the IBM software group very successfully. HP’s software business, especially its middleware business has been a disaster. Mr. Mills could help with that. He is 58.

Any other suggestions?

UPDATE: I’m adding Ed Zander to this list. He would be very good for HP– he would bring some of that Sun uppity spirit, which HP needs.

Good day to confirm this comment I would appreciate T h e b e s t o f Z D N e t d e l i v e r e d your website very nice to everyone Yes, Oracle is the only one with shared-disk architecture, but that is there advantage. It means you can add or remove nodes and the database lives on. In a shared nothing architecture, if you lose a node, you lose the system. I'm sure Oracle appreciates EMC highlighting their advantage.I also desire to signal in your RSS feeds. Thank you as soon as once again and maintain up the great operate Awesome post! Thank you very much || thanks for nice content this is really benefit to me.

Who it is hardly matters in the end, as long as they maintain the same irreproachable standards -- and status quo. wink

Oh and by the way, could you ask whoever gets anointed to the shrine to maybe rethink their priorities on the American side of the equation? You know, the place from which they sprung in an era now long forgotten?
He can put solaris or linux on all their PC/laptops/netbooks and drive there market share to zero. Then he can implement a "java everywhere" strategy and tank their server business too. HAHAHAAHAHAA
I hear Carly might be available

They had to get a bucket out to mop up the drool when he heard the news that Mark was out the door.

He does have some claim to the job, since he takes credit for most of the acquisitions by HP since the Compaq merger (notably excluding EDS).
HP has a much higher standard on ethics & integrity than Symantec. Sign?

As I have reported to Symantec Ethics about David Freer?s (VP, Symantec ? Norton, APJ) misconducts (fraud, having dissented sex with me as he lied, using company resources for personal benefits ? hundreds hours phone calls, hanging out with me during office hours, negative impacts on Symantec corporate image), what they do surprise me too. They basically ignore ? never process the investigation, covering the serial lying & cheating criminal up, then threaten me. As Warren Buffet said when he decides which company is worth to invest, he values the CEO?s ethic and integrity the most. Being a senior management, David Freer shall walk the talks, instead he has set up a terrible example. How dare Symantec always campaign the company itself as defeat cyber criminals, but in the real world, Symantec acts just like robbers, mafia, & criminals. How ironic!
@strela825
But do us a favor.. We really, really, REALLY don't care to hear about this guy and the sordid sex triangles he may or may not engage in. Save it for divorce court.. Or whatever.
@Wolfie2K3

No. What David Freer did is worse than Mark Hurd. He deserved worset punishment. I was a former Symantec empolyee too. He offered me a job with salary increased 50% to work for him. He also has given rasie & promotions to some female employee, who he can't even name her achievements. Suzy Walsham, who I don't know if she's his wife, girlfriend, or whatever, was once worked for him for more than three years. As David Freer was the head of Finance dept and Suzy Walsham was in charge of accounting.

So, are you saying Symantec is allowed to have much lower standard on those standard? honesty? intergrity? respect? I am not sure most of the investors would agree with that. No to mention, David Freer only has very little contribution to the company. If HP can let go Mark Hurd, I can't see why Symantec can't make the same decision, unless it's too currutpive, which is quite true from my point of view.

In this regard, I have to say BRAVO to HP's board. You made a great decision. On the contrast, I think it also demostrated that Symantec CEO & the BOARD lack of good judgements, probably much worst than HP's board & Mark Hurd.
@Wolfie2K3

And a gentle reminder. You only represent yourself. So, you shall say do "me" a favor, as you don't represent many people's point of views.
@Wolfie2K3
Also, FYI, I got a let go, after I refused the promotion and transfer department to work for him. But I thought it's my famle boss's Stephanie Edwards (VP, Symantec - PC Tools) jealousy, as rumored said they were together.

David Freer (VP, Symantec Consumer Business Units - Norton, APJ) is a BIG LIAR! He lied to me for more than two and half years for my true feelings, time, and money. Also kept saying I am the only one in his life. Even this year on Feb. 2, he used company line to lead me to have phone sex with him. Until I found out there?s some other woman, he made up another lie and finally admitted he?s been living with her for a year. Later, I realized they were all lies. He actually has married March 2009. And now he just totally disappeared and not answering any phone calls, acting like ?hit & run? irresponsible baby. Can you trust someone like this, with no ethics and integrity? The more unbelievable things are David Freer newly-wed wife - SUZY WALSHAM, she shamefully admitted she was the third person who broke up David Freer & his ex 12 years relationships, and mocking at me as the 3rd "unsuspected" person, as she agreed with his husband?s behaviors!!!!!! SHAME ON both of you, DAVID FREER & SUZY WALSHAM!!!!!!! (THEY BOTH WORK FOR SYMANTEC)
