Acer is determined to make a name for itself in the tablet market with the unveiling of a pair of slate computers today. But don't expect to see these available in time for the holidays.

Powered by Android 2.2, the 7-inch and 10.1-inch tablets are planned to drop in April 2011. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but let's take a closer look at each of their specs:

7-inch Acer tablet

  • 7-inch touch screen (1,280 x 800 resolution; 16:10 aspect ratio)
  • Dual-core processor
  • Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support
  • Dolby Mobile Technology
  • Wi-Fi
  • 3G
  • DLNA support
  • Front-facing HD camera
  • HDMI

10.1-inch Acer tablet

  • 10.1-inch full capacitive touch screen
  • 1080p video playback capability
  • 10-point multi-touch and gyro meter control
  • Wi-Fi
  • 3G
  • HDMI port
  • 13.3mm (0.5-inches) thick

    I find it HIGHLY unlikely either one of these tablets will be running Froyo. Gingerbread comes out first week of December, and then Honeycomb (the 3.0 tablet version of Android) will be out by March of next year. That would fit in fine with Acer's release date of April, don't you think?

    Just wait, we will see an onslaught of Honeycomb tablets next spring.
