• April 4: Apple sues all tablet makers for patent infringement

Microsoft will have to pay Apple for the right to
have released tablets for the last 8 years. That's
what happens when you jump to the future, see what
Apple is going to release, and then release it
yourself 8 years earlier.

• Predictions from NonZeolat

We all cherish Non Zealots predictions for the iPhone it was going to fail and did nothing you could not do on an MS Mobile phone.

Do you have any predictions for us PC users about how well the iPad will do then NonZealot?

We all cherish Non Zealots predictions for
the iPhone it was going to fail

When did I predict that? I was on the record as
saying the iPhone would do very well. Look it
up if you care to.

and did nothing you could not do on an MS
Mobile phone.

That isn't a prediction, that is fact.

Do you have any predictions for us PC users

I predict the iPad will do well for the same
reasons the iPhone did well and it will have
absolutely nothing to do with how good the
device actually is.

• Apple was doing a tablet 17 years ago.

It doesn't even matter who you perceive to be first. It's about the
better mouse trap. There is nothing like iPad currently...just wait 6
months, every TDAH will be trying to copy it in some way. And that
won't matter either. A really great anything is much more than the
sum of it's parts.

Jobs said Apple was going to enforce these patents so I don't know
why all the Apple bashers are so surprised that the poor little huge
Korean phone maker is getting the gears. Maybe I do, they never take
the time to learn about outside of their realm of interest before
spouting off.

Manufactures are a dime a dozen, the technology is there, they just
follow a specification. The Intellectual Property is where the value is.
This is where all those people that work in North America for Apple
put their talent blood sweat and tears. This is where the money went
to design and develop the way the iPhone works.

You actually think it is A-OK for anyone to simply take that work, copy
it and reap the reward? Didn't we have this same damned discussion
about Psystar?

If you weren't so twisted by hostility for Apple you might actually have
something interesting to say. Oh well, at least you are passionate.

Here is something interesting to think about: Jobs has never gotten
over how Gates copied Macintosh and got away with it. Do you really
think he will let that happen again? I think he wants payback and he is
doing it with the hearts and minds of the consumer. Microsoft is
starting to look like a wannabe in the consumer market.

• iYawn.

What's to be excited about? It's an over-sized, over-priced iPod.

• iAgree

I just don't understand, tablet PC's have been around for a decade, Apple suddenly comes out with it's own version of this, one that does less and doesn't even have a physical keyboard, and suddenly it's a big deal to the media.

• iWatchthecashrollin

Just stand by the side and scratch your heads while Apple puts millions
more in the bank with a product that confused you. It's not just a
big deal to the media, it's going to create a new computing category. It
is so humorous to see people insist that the iPad is just another tablet
PC. But, don't think about it too much, because as you said, you don't
understand. And that's why the money won't be going into your pockets.
jgpeters
• U do understand???

U do understand? Is why the money won't be going into your pockets either, unless of course you are on the BOD of Apple.
With inferences like this, It is clear you do not have a clue either.

Apples cash cow is getting old and they are just looking for the next "big thing". Is it the iPAD? Who knows, time will tell. One thing is clear, however. You will not be getting any of the millions that apple is putting in the bank.

Please...............

• And thats what kills me about pro fanboys...

They aren't making a dime off any of these products 9 times out of 10 and their arguments have no technical merit. So whats really their point?
storm14k
• And that's what kills me about tech bigots...

...they think that they have the only definition of what a product should
be. Why does it piss you off so much when people like something that
they buy? You can't understand anything other than "it's cheap and it
gets the job done." Who decided that that is all that matters? Just
because you place no value on style and experience doesn't mean that
those things have no value. Go ahead and trot out all your old clich?s,
we're all brainwashed, we have too much money, blah, blah, blah. I'm
glad you were appointed the arbiter of what matters. Meanwhile,
companies like Apple will continue to make products that their
customers want and you can use you plastic, ugly piece of crap and pat
yourself on the back for being so frugal. Really it won't bother me.
jgpeters
• How do you infer from my post that I thought I would get $?

Your reading comprehension skills leave a little to be desired. My point
was that the confusion of some posters on ZDNet who can't understand
the direction of a product from the most admired company in the world
was not a reflection on a poor product design, but on the fact that your
brains were not creative enough to keep up with Cupertino. Your posts
will be cited along with all the posts about how the iPhone could not
succeed to illustrate why we are glad that you aren't at the helm of a
creative company like Apple. And you are right, it remains to be seen if
the iPad will be the next big thing, but your opinions are certainly not
going to worry me.
jgpeters

Since it's less than a tablet, and more importantly a product made by the great company Apple, for some reason, that means to many clueless people that it's somehow a better product.
