HP unveils updated Pavilion lineup of consumer laptops; start $649 to $849
Hewlett Packard on Wednesday unveiled a refreshed lineup of Pavilion consumer laptops, with sizes ranging from 14 to 17 inches and prices starting at $649.
The new HP Pavilion notebook PCs include the dm4, dv5, dv6 and dv7.
The Pavilion dm4 is the thin-and-light model. Clad in an aluminum finish, it's about an inch thick and tips the scales at 4.4 pounds.
Outside, you'll find a BrightView HD LED display (1366x768), fingerprint reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports (one shared eSATA), 1 HDMI port, 1 VGA port and a 5-in-1 card reader.
Inside, you'll find an Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD graphics and a SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW optical drive.
The dm4 manages up to 6.5 hours of battery life.
Meanwhile, the 14.5-inch Pavilion dv5 offers Intel Core i3 and i5 or AMD Turion II processors and comes with a matte, not brushed aluminum, finish available in black, red and "champagne."
There are no switchable graphics on this model, but Intel versions will naturally support WiDi technology.
The 15.6-inch Pavilion dv6 is the sweet spot of the lineup, with a unique feature: an optional multitouch screen.
Aside from that, the dv6 offers the choice of either brushed aluminum or "imprint" finish and AMD or Intel Core processors.
The 17.3-inch Pavilion dv7 is naturally the hot rig of the group, and includes AMD's triple-core Phenom II processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 switchable discrete graphics.
It also supports Beats Audio, like HP's premium Envy models.
Ports on the dv7 include 4 USB 2.0 (fourth shared with eSATA), 1 HDMI, 1 VGA. It weighs 8.19 lbs.
The HP Pavilion dm4, dv5, dv6 and the dv7 Select Edition will be available in the U.S. on May 19 with starting prices of $729.99, $649.99, $699.99 and $849.99, respectively.
