According to DigiTimes, the units "are expected to be used for testing." So does that mean 60,000 people will be participating in the pilot program? Honestly...who knows? It's possible that quantity could be solely for the test program, or a select number could be reserved for in-house at Google. (Hopefully ZDNet's Christopher Dawson will selected as one of the lucky participants!)

But that figure is certain to grow whenever the Cr-48 is cleared for an official launch.

    What they should have shipped was a customer relations department. Google's entry into hardware thus far has been about as welcome and useful as their OS.

    • Google is not ...

      @dheady@...

interested in HW, except to seed and help direct the market. Most of those who criticize Google's HW efforts fail to understand what Google is trying to do, IMHO.

      And which OS are you referring to? Android has been a huge success and Chrome is not out, which means you have no clue what you are talking about.

      @dheady@... Can't speak for the rest, but their customer service is severely lacking. However, they are getting better. Their arrogance in a world they do not know how to play in is getting slapped around a lot (from what I have seen here). So they are learning...slow, but learning. How they handle laptops and customers from a OS perspective, updates etc. Will be highly entertaining to watch.

    It means only Google employees will be using this. Its going to be hard for them between choosing playing with the netbook and playing with the office toys. Decisions decisions.

    • You certainly need to......

      @Loverock Davidson

play more. Whatever you are doing, it is clearly not working.

You are the most boring, predictable, unoriginal, biased, petty, small minded and unintelligent poster I have EVER encountered. The more you post, the worse you make yourself and MS look. NOBODY wants a fan boy like you. You are embarrassing those you are apparently trying to help, so keep it up. With friends like you, MS does not need enemies.

Google employee's "playing" is clearly working for Google, but I do not expect you to understand that.

      Edit: Here is some news for you to enjoy:

        @Economister

The irony is, Microsoft gave out 90k of these toys (WP7) to their employees. But the employees are playing with the other market leading phones, NOT WP7. Hence, they can't even make a toy right.

        Uh oh, someone needs a time out. :)

        and it is not me who needs the time out. I have all my faculties fully functioning. It appears your stairs are a few steps short of reaching the top.

        Oh dear, no arguments left, so it's insults. I think we've already seen what happens when you put linux on netbooks and I don't believe Google has a cult following like Apple. So who want's to buy a brain damaged netbook? Well as the saying goes - one born every minute ;-)

        Alan Henry : Unsure where you got your [brainwashing] information from. There is a diufference between Microsoft giving WP7 phones to their employees and some company trying to make a name by sucking up to Apple and giving them 60,000 netbooks.

      I think Donnieboy's got some saving to do. If he can only buy all 60K than he can claim success.

      I'd rather buy an iBrick or a clay tablet and stick, or do we have any Etch-a-Sketch's keft?

  • That's a very nice looking netbook

    Google did a good job copying Apple (again)

      @iPad-awan : You think everone copies Apple? Apple decided to dump the PowerPC platform for Intel? Why? Because Apple copied everyone else! [unless you can give a better excuse]
      Gis Bun
      • Apple moved to intel

        because they went as far as they could with the PowerPC platform. Intel just had/has more powerful chips than PPC.

    • RE: Inventec shipping 60,000 Chrome OS netbooks to Google

      @james347 They're not selling them.

      Google is offering up the Cr-48's as part of a pilot program for beta testing and feedback on ChromeOS. see: http://www.google.com/chromeos/pilot-program-cr48.html

      Anyone in the US can apply for the pilot program as well.
