iPad 2 might be announced as soon as next week

January came and went without an iPad 2 unveiling, thus it’s time to start rumors about a February announcement - and it could be as soon as next week.

Multiple websites are speculating that Apple might be hosting an event next week to officially debut iOS 4.3, which has been the source of another rumor mill entirely. While this could be true, it would also serve as a good cover for a surprise revelation.

Normally Apple tends to announced next-gen iPhone and iPad models in January (and June), but we didn’t get anything truly new last month. The big event was all about the current iPhone’s availability with a new carrier, Verizon. But we all knew that was coming, didn’t we? It’s possible that Apple didn’t want to overshadow this news, thus holding off the iPad 2 until after February 10 when the Verizon iPhone hits shelves.

Given how many rumors there have been about the iPad 2, we know this gadget is coming too. It’s only a matter of time.

It's interesting that you think that OS X isn't related to UNIX "at all."

OS X is certified POSIX compliant. Look it up.

I'd say March time frame.
@Ron Burgundy Whenever it is, I hope it will have a widescreen, Flash support and widgets. They need to impress us!

Stand by for ennui.

@Ron Burgundy
It will be announced 1-10 days before availability in the store. They do like their big products to hit right before the last weekend in a month. Some argue that there will be an annual refresh, as with iPods in September and iPhones in June. Give me a moment.

Mmmm. Oolong. And tea leaves say: mid-March for a end of 2nd quarter release or mid-April for the end of April anniversary of the iPad1's release.

It's the people who haven't bought the iPad as they feel it doesn't have what they need, true?

@Pagan and Ron
The two iCrAppleholic twins still wearing your rose colored glasses.... eh? haha... it's already been leaked that actual launch to market of iFad 2 won't be until late May or June at the earliest. Because Samsung is just now retooling and ramping up production of CrApple's A9 dual core chips for both iPwn'd 5 and iPad 2 (A5 chip)!
http://www.iphonic.tv/2011/01/samsung_ramp_up_production_of.html

With that being true, it's not possible for a March launch of the bogus POS iFad 2. Meanwhile they are already pumping out dual core and quad cores for their own devices!

Remember fools.... for every Apple product sold, that's still money in Samsung's pockets and still has them at #1 Electronics Corporation with that one division. While CrApple is only #19 in the World. Also kiddies..... you need to come to grips with the simple fact that CrApple is totally un-American by investing more in China and S. Korea than our own country for supplying jobs in our weak economy.

Again...... Market Cap is BOGUS...... and can't be considered true value. When CrApple's Market Cap is artificially hyped above the largest Corporation in the World at #1 Walmart! ....with that bogus Market Cap, I could buy 4 or 5 major corporations with combined profits and hard asset value far surpassing CrApple's! wink .....soft assets are like bras on boobies. Take them off an old woman and they fall flat!!!

And I really gotta hit you fools up on dissing MS XP as an old operating system, when CrApple's OS-X is so old, we don't want to see it take it's bra off!!! bwaaa haha.... yes you been incremental fake silicone implant updates that just tease you into staying loyal with a firm promise! ....while MS has popped out three whole new operating systems and are still pounding CrApple into the ground on PC's owning over 90% of the market! ^_^

@i2fun@...ignorance has a face, and it is i2fun@...

Microsoft is on its latest revision of Windows. Its not a whole new OS. The new revision (7) is a new GUI with a bunch of extra code. The OS handles the processor requests and threading. Different thing. I thought you might like to know the difference, since it looks like you don't yet.

Since it was first released OS X has gone through 6 revisions. Before that they went through 9 revisions of Mac OS. Plus, lets not forget that Microsoft's prior revision of Windows sucked on toast. Hard.

And is OS X old? ...yes it is! So old it goes back top the 70s and the strength, power and reliability of UNIX and NeXT. Its so old that because of how powerful and reliable the OS is, it doesn't need a lot of updating...its that good! They removed the PPC compiled code because it isn't needed with the Intel processors.

So, maybe now your future posts won't sound as stupid. I'm sure they'll still BE stupid, but they won't sound AS stupid.

@I12BPhil
Actually it's not related to Unix at all. BS-X actually has a split personality, as a clone of a clone born as a Siamese twin stuck in NeXT OS's GUI. Whereas Linux is a direct clone of Unix sharing it's same GUI (Xwindows being more like twins). Just like BSD originally was/is.

BS-X is actually closer to Windows NT and it's kernel with a Windows GUI. Old Windows was running doggy style on top DOS. You know.... like NeXT OS doggy styling a pile of BS doggy poo. That's why it has to actually have Cocoa keeping them stuck together. But like I said, Windows on NT Kernel doesn't need a Cocoa doing that and this is what makes BS-X seem like an old woman trying to have an affair with a young male hooker. It's a total break down in communications!

Tell me this.... why did CrApple have to borrow KDE's browser engine (Webkit is from KDE Konqueror Browser), if they are such a great bunch of developers? hmmm...? Why can't they get the OS to boot straight up, minus their DRM'd hardware and Boot Camp Gestapo messing it up? Yeah.... seems these kids making 'em into Hackintoshes can!:D

btw... I have used BS-X for 8yrs in the past at work, for graphics development. Now I'm not even looking back and I actually have the top of th line Graphics cards of choice to work with. Not CrApple telling me what I can use or not use to do it with. I don't think CrApple is going to ever catch up to Windows in either the work place and Desktops! ....it just ain't ever going to happen! haha.... Sorry!

Maybe it will be announced on Valentines' Day happy
@ptorning
I think you might be right about the day. They might announce it on Valentine's Day. I do hope Steve Jobs is well enough to take the stage. That would be cool!

@photog7
I was, of course, being cheeky. In Australia, Apple is launching a big campaign to convince people to buy iPads instead of chocolates as Valentines Gifts. With that sort of marketing and publicity, it is hard to imagine that a new iPad will be released until after Valentines' Day.

As for a roadmap, what point having one if the company involved does not follow it? Look at the features MS announced for Vista than never arrived, like a new file system. Or, look at CES 2011 and the number of tablets shown, especially Windows tablets, that never went to market. Look at the number of Android devices that have never been updated to newer versions of the OS, or that aren't updateable, or even those for which updates arrived but months late. All that you can do is make the best possible decision at any time . . . and then accept that it was the best possible decision for that time.

@Tigertank ... Welcome to purchasing Apple equipment, where the buyers have no f*cking clue what Apple's road map is, so you can't make a future-proof purchase.

@WarhavenSC
What planet are you from? Most Apple products are released in certain cycle and iPad shouldn't be different. It will be April at the latest for the iPad 2. iPhone in June-July.
@WarhavenSC
Honestly, there's no such thing as a 'future proof' tech purchase. There will always be something faster, better, shinier.
@Tigertank
You have a good product and one that will serve you well. That's really all that matters.
@Tigertank Thats their whole business model. Keep buying brand new devices.

Ms King: I think the propagation of rumors is a sign of writer desperation. I checked the links. One went to AppleInsider which referenced a German website. The other went to Geeksugar which referenced the AppleInsider story.

In short, this is one site's speculation echoing through the chamber. MacNotes.de? Really? They're the ones who know?

It amazes me how often at zdnet one site is considered as good as another when it is clear that for every 50 Apple rumors, there's 1 mostly-true report, and these usually are reported from The Wall Street Journal.

And the theory that purports the more something is linked, the truer it is? Le Sigh.

We're only two weeks away from CES and you've run out of announced devices to discuss?

This is my turn away from the Dark Side exhortation. Trust me, reprinting a poorly-sourced rumor and calling yourself done for the day is not the way to make your name as a writer. It certainly doesn't differentiate you from any thing I could do.

Each IOS release slows my Touch
jscott418 4th Feb 2011
I have a 3G 32GB Touch and on each IOS release it gets slower and the battery life gets shorter. Personally I don't want a iPad unless it gets more features like real network printing to any network printer, and more storage options such as a SD card.
Seriously? This article isn't even based on any type of fact. It doesn't make any sense for them to announce a product when inventory levels of the current product haven't dropped off. Stop this crazy speculation to get higher hits.

@Keonidas

Beat me to it. You can usually tell when Apple is set to release something new as the inventory of the existing model dries up.

Guess you're just seething with jealousy since Microsoft has NOTHING to match against it.

Ron, just hang it up
John Zern 4th Feb 2011
@Ron Burgundy
one day you can make a 100% worthwhile statement worth discussing, then the next three days your Microsoft envy (it can't be anything else) prompts you to drag MS into an article so you can insult people?

I'm just going to take a guess here, but your iPhone purchase didn't make you look as cool as you thought it would to your friends. Is that true?

@John Zern No my Windows phone 7 purchase made me the laughingstock of the office.

Just kidding, I don't own a Windows 7 Phone.
