Motorola Droid Pro to go on pre-sale with Verizon Wireless tomorrow

Verizon Wireless has gotten official with the launch plans for the Motorola Droid Pro, an Android 2.2-based smartphone optimized for business purposes.

Information about the Droid Pro launch was spotted last week, and for the most part it was correct - except about pricing. Starting tomorrow (November 9), the Droid Pro will be available for pre-order online and at select Verizon Wireless Communications stores.

The latest Motorola handheld will then be in all stores on Thursday, November 18 for $179.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with the signing of a two-year customer agreement. That rebate will be returned in the form of a debit card. The final catches are that buyers will have to subscribe to both a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 3G Smartphone Plan.

To refresh your memory, the "global-ready" Droid Pro is powered by a 1GHz processor, and it sports a 3.1-inch display, a full QWERTY keyboard and a 5-megapixel AF camera with LED flash. Some of the business-friendly touches include support for both Exchange and Gmail for Business, corporate directory look-up, remote wipe of device and SD card, and complex password support. Data encryption will be available in 2011.

  • A business unfriendly thing this has is the company crapware..

City ID, VCast services baked in, Blockbuster, and more - all unacceptable for a business phone. Verizon needs to revisit the idea what "Pro" means.

After reading the Endgadget Review, I am excited to get a hands on review of the Motorola Droid Pro. This phone looks remarkably similar in shape to to a Blackberry, but the Droid Pro?s dimensions seem larger. I like the look of the Droid Pro, and if the keyboard is anything like the Blackberry, it should be a very good alternative. I am not a fan of the original Motorola Droid?s fold out keyboard, so I am anxious to see how the Droid Pro?s keyboard feels and works. I am not blown away by the specs on the Droid Pro, it seems like a limited upgrade from previous Droids. The internationalization is a nice to have, but really not something I would use regularly.
