Verizon Wireless has gotten official with the launch plans for the Motorola Droid Pro, an Android 2.2-based smartphone optimized for business purposes.
Information about the Droid Pro launch was spotted last week, and for the most part it was correct - except about pricing. Starting tomorrow (November 9), the Droid Pro will be available for pre-order online and at select Verizon Wireless Communications stores.
The latest Motorola handheld will then be in all stores on Thursday, November 18 for $179.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with the signing of a two-year customer agreement. That rebate will be returned in the form of a debit card. The final catches are that buyers will have to subscribe to both a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 3G Smartphone Plan.
To refresh your memory, the "global-ready" Droid Pro is powered by a 1GHz processor, and it sports a 3.1-inch display, a full QWERTY keyboard and a 5-megapixel AF camera with LED flash. Some of the business-friendly touches include support for both Exchange and Gmail for Business, corporate directory look-up, remote wipe of device and SD card, and complex password support. Data encryption will be available in 2011.
