Roundup of last minute Christmas shipping deadlines

Summary: Just getting your Christmas gadget shopping started or need a few things to wrap up your list? You can still be a holiday hero by ordering your gifts within the next couple of days (and hours).

With five days to go until Christmas, you still have time to get your gadget gifts signed and delivered in time for this Sunday but just barely. Many retailers are offering free holiday shipping but only for orders received within the next couple of days and with strict time deadlines. To make sure you don’t resort to shopping at your local gas station this Christmas, here is a handy roundup of the deadlines you need to meet to get your gadget shopping done — stat!

Amazon

  • Looking to give a $79 Kindle, $99 Kindle Touch, $149 Kindle Touch 3G and $199 Kindle Fire this Christmas? All four Kindles qualify for free 2-day shipping (within continental U.S.) as long as you order by 8:00 pm Pacific Time on December 21.
  • Select products are eligible for free 1-day shipping (within continental U.S.) if ordered by December 21at 11:59 pm Pacific Time.

Barnes & Noble

  • Order any new Nook device online by December 21 at 11:59 pm (EST) for free delivery in time for Christmas (December 24, 2011).
  • Trade-in any first-gen Nook at your local Barnes & Noble store, purchase a new device and receive a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card for free. This offer is good from now till December 24.
  • Free gift wrapping for purchase of any Nook device in B&N stores.

Best Buy

  • Order “in-stock” and “Usually leaves our warehouse in 1 business day” items from BestBuy.com no later than 11:00 a.m. ET December 21 for Expedited shipping, and 11:00 a.m. ET December 22 for Express Shipping.
  • Free standard shipping on all items available online with no minimum purchase, from now till December 27.
  • Order online by no later than 3:00 p.m. local time December 24 to pickup in-store before store closes for Christmas.

Buy.com

  • Buy.com’s free 2-day shipping deadline has just been extended to 9:00 a.m. PST December 21 so look for the qualifying items with the “Santa’s sleigh” badge.

Newegg

  • Although Newegg.com is out of stock on the quad-core Asus Transformer Prime, you can order other tech toys in time for delivery on December 23. You can choose the “Newegg 2 Day” shipping option if your order is placed and verified by 3:00 p.m. PST December 21, or go for the “Newegg Next Day” shipping for orders placed and verified by the same time on December 22.

Office Depot

  • All stores will be opened until 6:00 p.m. local time on Christmas Eve so you can make a last minute dash to its electronics department if all your other gift ideas fall through.

Overstock

  • Overstock.com will be delivering your gifts up until Christmas Eve: Get “2nd Day Shipping” for orders received by December 21 at 1:59 a.m ET, “Next Day Shipping” for orders placed by December 22 at 12:00 p.m. ET, and “Saturday Delivery” for purchases made by December 23 at 11:00 a.m. ET.

Target

  • Select items from Target.com are eligible for “seasonal shipping” as long as the order is placed by tonight, December 20 at 11:59 a.m. ET. You must select this shipping option at checkout to ensure a Christmas delivery.

Walmart

  • Orders placed by 11:30 p.m. PT December 21 will arrive by December 24 with “Rush Shipping.”
