At a media event in New York City today, Samsung and AT&T finally announced the price and availability of the Samsung Infuse 4G.

Following the model set by many smartphones nowadays, the Infuse 4G will run for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Samsung is not offering any rebates on the device, so that price tag stands. When it hits stores on May 15, the Infuse 4G will be the first HSPA+ 4G phone running on AT&T's network.

Samsung introduced the Infuse at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in January, but said nary a word about the device since. And it's a shame because the phone is pretty impressive, all told.

One of the Infuse's greatest features is its large 4.5-inch super AMOLED Plus display, which, with 50 percent more subpixels. allows for greater color quality and contrast.

The device also features 1.2GHz processor, 16GB of internal storage. and a 8-megapixel rear camera capable of recording 720p HD video.

In all, the Infuse feels much more sturdy than Samsung's line of Galaxy phones, which have become known for feeling a bit cheap. Samsung is also gloating over the device's elegant form factor, calling the 8.9mm device the thinnest 4G phone current available.

Here are the phone's specifications:

•     Android 2.2 platform

•     4G: HSDPA CAT 14  and HSUPA CAT 6

•     8.9 mm to 9.24mm thin

•     UMTS 850/1900/2100

•     GSM 850/900/1800/1900

•     1.2 GHz processor

•     4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen

•     8-megapixel camera with HD 720p video camera and 1.3-megapixel front facing camera

•     Virtual QWERTY keyboard
