Skype for Android now compatible with Samsung Galaxy S

Good news for Samsung Galaxy S series smarpthone owners. Skype for Android should now be compatible with your mobile device!

That is, of course, if you already have Android 2.2 installed on your handheld. Froyo is a base requirement for the updated app, which also now lets you store the program on an SD card. The whole thing should take up about 15MB of space, which isn't bad at all.

The app is free to download, but don't forget about subscription costs when you make calls other than when it's Skype-to-Skype or IM. To find out which other Android devices ready for Skype, check out the list.

Better question is, Why was Skype for Android not always compatible.

After all, there is no fragmentation issues within Android.

There's fragmentation...

and then there's fragmentation. Software written to run on Android 2.2 or later can't be expected to run on Android 1.x no more than software written for Windows 7 and .NET 4.0 can be expected to run on a Windows XP box with the .NET 1.0 framework installed. Version changes may be referred to by some as "fragmentation", but that's just because those people are stupid. You don't want to be thought of as "those people", do you?
