TomTom has just debuted the Go Live 1000, which is all ready for that great European road trip this summer with real-time information for drivers and “seamless” connectivity across 33 European countries.
Powered by a 500Mhz ARM11 processor, the two stand-out features on the Go Live 1000 are the capacitive touchscreen display (TomTom’s first) and the WebKit-based user interface. TomTom promises that the UI will still be “easy to use” but the graphics have been stepped up a bit.
Users can also expect a SIM card slot, 4GB of internal storage, 128MB of RAM and one year of complimentary TomTom Live services. Normally, there’s a subscription fee, and Go Live 1000 buyers will have to pay the subscription thereafter. However, that apparently won’t be more than €50 ($67) per year.
Some of the information that will be available to drivers in the unspecified 33 European nations include traffic reports (on most highways and some smaller roads), weather and gas prices. There will also be local info and speed cameras search function in 16 countries.
Unfortunately, there’s no more specific release time than “summer,” and if there’s another volcanic ash crisis, there will surely be plenty of people hitting the roads of Europe again on twisting odysseys and such a little GPS module could be extremely useful.
