The wait is almost over for the Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 edition, and Verizon Wireless has finally given out some numbers about pricing.

But this little guy won't be cheap. When the special R2-D2 edition drops on September 30, the smartphone will cost $249...after a $100 mail-in rebate. Hopefully you have saved up enough money for the upfront price.

But for true Star Wars fans, that price might be worth paying. Along with looking like everyone's favorite little astromech droid, there is plenty of exclusive content, especially related to the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back this year.

Along with the power dock and carbonite-like packaging we saw previously, buyers will get R2-D2 notification sounds and ringtones, a "Best of R2-D2" video with that catchy Cantina music, an R2-D2 clock widget, four live wallpapers and an oddly included binoculars app.

But luckily the Star Wars fun isn't limited to owners of this particular phone. Anyone who owns an Android device running Android 2.1 or higher can download the Empire Strikes Back app from Android Market for $2.99. The two most interesting features in this app appear to be the previously mentioned live wallpapers and the trivia challenge game. But it also includes some widgets, a photo gallery and "Bounty Hunt Visual ID," which is basically a series of clues and images users have to search for to unlock hidden content.
