The FCC has granted a 30-day extension to VoIP providers to obtain acknowledgements from customers that they may have trouble reaching 911 via the Internet, Reuters reports. As noted yesterday, the VON Consortium had asked for a 90-day extension. If the FCC had not granted an extension, VoIP providers would have had to cut off customers who hadn't made the acknowledgement. Providers have until November to provide fail-safe 911 services through  VoIP.
