One way to green up your line-matrix printers

By | May 12, 2011, 4:18am PDT

An Atlanta-based developer of document management software called DocPath has introduced a new set of applications, called Business Suite Industrial, that purports to extend the life of your line-matrix or thermal printers. You know, the ones that rental car companies use to print out contracts or that many companies use to print out invoices. The technology is still really effective for printing out forms like that, which require multiple copies. As readers of this blog know, they are still widely used in the real world, but some software applications don’t support them so well.

The way Business Suite works is by allowing you to format documents that allow for tables, images, barcodes and other things you might want to print using one of these printers.

Notes Julio Olivares, president and CEO of DocPath:

“Many businesses like the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of existing line-matrix printers, but have been forced to migrate to laser due to a severe lack of application flexibility. With DocPath, this is no longer the case. Line matrix is increasingly relevant by offering benefits such as lower energy consumption, hardware longevity, lower cost of ownership and support for graphical forms generation.”

It’s a case of one green strategy being to use what you already have better than you could have in the past. So, if you’ve got a fleet of line-matrix or thermal printers to support, you might want to check out this software.

Writing publicly about what the high-tech industry is actually doing to help itself and the world get greener or more sustainable is one way I figure I can contribute more meaningfully to said effort. I am also a big OMG-kind-of-fan of smart leadership, which is why the goodly folks who publish this blog let me go on about this topic and why I am always on the hunt for forward-looking business management ideas.

My daily writing is focused on looking for topics for my blogs, GreenTech Pastures and Business Brains. I also write often about emerging technology trends such as mobile computing, unified communications and cloud computing. Occasionally, I will pop up at an industry conference in some sort of speaking capacity. In cases where a speaking engagement involves a sponsor that may be covered in this blog, that fact will be disclosed in coverage as appropriate.

My corporate writing work usually consists of crafting research white papers about some aspect of technology. In the event that my commentary (in written, audio or video form) mentions a company for which I have provided consulting advice, I will disclose that fact. However, there is no connection between these projects and the topics that I am covering in my blog.
