Corsair has launched new high-speed memory modules for Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors.

The new Dominator GT modules are packaged as 8GB and 12GB kits. The 8GB kit (part # CMD8GX3M4A1600C8) consists of four 2GB modules and it aimed at the dual-channel Core i5 LGA1156 CPU, while the 12GB kit (part # CMD12GX3M6A1600C8) offers up six 2GB modules for the triple-channel Core i7 LGA 1366 (this kit also includes an airflow fan).

The modules themselves are identical, only the way they are packaged up is different. They operate at 1,600MHz with and have a latency of 8-8-8-24. Voltage is a standard 1.65V.

No word on pricing as of yet.

  • I wonder...

What will be the last component in a PC without a heat sink or fan?

Practically that way with the Mac.

    • Too late

Those blue fins at the top of the modules are heat sinks. And the 12GB kit includes an airflow fan...

Never mind - assumed you weren't aware these were heatsink'd...

    • I wonder when 4GB sticks will appear...

Yeah, 2GB sticks are ok, but I want my set of 6 x 4GB sticks!

Core i5?? Where have I been?

  • RE: 24GB RAM and an i7 CPU with qualified motherboard

24GB RAM would be great if the IMC of the i7 CPU can handle it...I've been running 12GB RAM in an i7 since 5/2009 @ 4210Mhz and that is the practical limit of a stable system right now. Most boards, except my EVGA Classified, won't accept 24GB RAM anyway...12GB is the limit w/everything else.
With 24GB RAM I might have to drop back to 4Ghz...maybe less, who knows? Heat, watts, and VCore/VTT adjustment (on AIR) might prevent 4200+Mhz and 24GB RAM compatibility.

I upgraded my system to 8 Gb not to long ago. I didn't notice the difference until I started upgrading my previous main system. Not all that much difference between the CPU's, but worlds of difference between system performance!

  • ....the news is?

This is identical to the existing dominator ram, with an ugly blue heatsink.
