Firefox 4 isn't even out of beta yet, but that doesn't stop the UI team from thinking about Firefox 5.

ConcievablyTech uncovered mock-ups posted by the Mozilla UI team that show the possible UI for Firefox 5.

Here's what we have (click for larger images).

The site-specific browser idea is interesting. Basically it consists of dedicated tabs that integrate into the UI and offer site-specific features.

Interesting.

    • Well, still a small fraction of the time that elapsed between IE6 and IE7,

or from XP to Vista. Firefox is still a lot better than IE9, though IE9 was one helluva improvement.

Firefox is going down hill. They attack IE 9 but can't get Firefox 4 out the door. Firefox 3.6.x has been the most buggy version yet of Firefox. Now they are talking up Firefox 5.

I think I may switch back to IE when 9 comes out.

    • Firefox is doing quite well, it is forcing Microsoft to continue innovating

and implement standards. Together with Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera, Microsoft is increasingly forced into standards as evidence by IE9. Firefox will remain very popular!

      • Firefox needs to speed it up

        Chrome is eating their lunch.

      • Firefox taking share from IE, and losing to Chrome. Chrome is doing VERY

well right now, you are right.

      • Chrome introduced to the mixture something that was needed

and that was agility that rivaled everything the others had.

This has led to great things coming from everybody.

While Mozilla got Microsoft out of the IE6 rut, I do not think Microsoft is being reluctant about standards support anymore. They are in fact working more closely with the W3C than ever before.

      • Without Firefox...

Without Firefox, everybody would still be using IE6 right now.

M$ isn't too interested in changing anything unless there's significant competition nearby. The (typical) symptom of fat, lazy corporations who still hold on to the past. GM, Chrysler and IBM come to mind.

@Randalllind Remember this is just the UI team, from what I seen they finished there redesign for Firefox 4, it not surprising they have move an considering ideas for version 5 and perhaps even looking further ahead.

IE9 is still behind FF3.5! They aren't so much slowing down as everyone is conditioned to expect leaps from Firefox, and their making incremental improvements now.

I've been using FF 4 for a while - no problems.
Go ahead and try I.E.9 (RC). I did. I'm sure you will change your mind about switching! You'll especially love how I.E. screwed up the Chrome style URL/Search bar!!!

I can't help but LOL at the webpage title. "Are We Pretty Yet?" makes me think of this demented, twisted, sickly person commiting murder and wearing someone else's skin just to look pretty.

    • Still, any way you look at it, Firefox works much better than even IE9.

Combined, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera, are forcing Microsoft into standards and innovating, which is a very good thing.

Donnie, how does Microsof thave to do with any of this? You are right, but that's not the point of this thread. If anything, Microsoft forced Mozilla to "innovate" here.

      • We are talking web browsers, and, in case you did not notice, MS stopped

innovating in web browsers after IE6, until Firefox took off. No, IE is not pusing Firefox, it is Chrome pushing Firefox. IE9 is a big improvement though.
        DonnieBoy
  • Let me guess

The site specific tabs/browsers use the IE9 jump lists for their commands. It seems like a shoddily implemented version of pinned sites.

    • God, give it some time, this is just an early preview.

I guess this shows just how popular Firefox has become, and how much of a threat it still is, the propeller heads all over any little Firefox publicity, like stink on sheeeeet.
      DonnieBoy
      • I should have given a better analysis

        @DonnieBoy

But you're the last one who should be making a statement like this. You blindly defend Google and attack MS, no matter what the article is.

And for the record, I switched from FF to Chrome about 6 months ago. I'm using IE9 RC at home more often now but Chrome is still what I use the majority of the time.
