Hey Doc, this PC is for you!
As a journalist I have always been a fan of laptops.
I originated what I called "Dana's Law of Laptops," namely that an ounce on the desk is a pound in my hand.
I have been very discouraged by the laptops of the early 21st century, but I just found something you'll drool over.
C'mere, doc, and take a look at this. It's called the Motion C5, from an Austin, Texas company launched by former execs with Dell and Apple.
What makes this cool is it has everything a doctor needs in a laptop, starting with a handle:
- The weight is just three pounds.
- You write on it or tap it with a pen. There's also a voice interface.
- The screen cover washes up in moments.
- It's sealed.
- It comes with an integrated digital camera for documenting injuries.
- It comes with an RFID reader and you can get a bar code scanner.
- Security is integrated, via either a fingerprint key or scanning of your ID tag.
- The docking station means it can integrate with your network, recharge overnight or during lunch, and be used as a standard desktop.
Compared to your desktop it's not that fast, with a 1.2 GHz Centrino processor and 512 Megabytes of RAM standard. It also does Windows. But the list price is just $2,200, and check out the brochure.
Most of the pictures I've seen show its screen oriented like a standard laptop, wider than it is tall. I hope you can flip that easily, holding it in your arm with the screen longer than it is wide. Sounds easy to fix.
This thing is sweet. I can't wait for them to ramp up production. Isn't there a physician you know who'd like this under their Christmas tree?
