For the past few weeks hacktivist group Anonymous's Indian volunteers have been very active. The bans on video streaming websites and file storage websites have resulted in Distributed Denial of Service attacks on several government websites. While most of the bans have been due to corporate interests of the movie production and distribution houses like Reliance Entertainment; the government seems to have its own agenda of appeasing religious hardliners.

In this government-businesses-courts tag team against "freedom" on Indian, Anonymous decided to take their opposition to the streets. In a first of its kind in India, Internet enthusiasts and Anonymous fans sporting Guy Fawkes masks were protesting across India. The protests coordinated via Twitter and Anonymous's IRC channels were held at:

  • Mumbai
  • Delhi - India Gate
  • Chandigarh
  • Indore
  • Kolkata
  • Hyderabad
  • Bangalore
  • Cochin
  • Calicut
  • Pune
  • Ahmedabad
  • Manipal
  • Trivandrum
  • Coimbatore
