Amazon leaks probable Mac Office 2011 launch date

As the 9to5 Mac site noted on September 10, it looks like Amazon.com has leaked again another Microsoft launch date and pricing.

According to a screen capture on that site, Amazon will be making available the next version of Microsoft's Mac Office suite starting on October 26.

Microsoft officials previously said the new suite would be available at the end of October. In early August, Microsoft shared pricing for the forthcoming suite. The three SKUs, or versions — Office for Mac Home & Student 2011, Office for Mac Home & Business 2011 and Office for Mac Academic 2011 — will be available at retail. (The Academic version, for students and faculty, will be available via authorized academic stores.)

Mac Office 2011 replaces Entourage with Outlook and adds back Visual Basic for Applications support to the product. Mac Office 2011 gets a Ribbonized user interface, similar to the one built into the recent  Windows versions of Office, and will be a 32-bit product only.

Microsoft is neither confirming nor denying the October 26 date.

"As announced this summer, Office for Mac 2011 will be on store shelves late October. However, we haven't announced the official launch date," a spokesperson told me today when I asked.

      @olePigeon Kind of interesting, isn't it? Apple's Mail - for Mac, iPhone and iPad - all support inline attachments already. I know Mail for Mac has for the last few years; past that, I don't know. Mobile Mail has supported it since its release.

        @Ktroje I guess it must be getting harder and harder to make a buck for the billionaires and millionaires at Microsoft. I'm glad I can do my community service by beta testing their product and handing over my greenbacks to keep the Microsoft monopoly going.

        The same advertisers that brought us Seinfeld (lets play footsie and wiggle our shorts Bill), Laptop Hunters (that got all sorts of bad press for lies (incorrect pricing and customer never actually went into an Apple store) and portraying windows as "cheep"), And Windows 7 was Macs idea (where a college kid who can't get laid and get kicked out of his dorm room (by his Mac roommate) has to watch TV in the hall because he doesn't even have a friend whom he could visit).

    If Visual Basic support is back I wonder if support for AppleScript will be gone. That would be tragic because nearly every other Mac application uses it and it will be impossible to tie it together with ose applications without it.

    If I gave this product 1 star it would be an act of generosity on my part.

    First, the so-called free-upgrade promised to last summer?s buyer of Office 2008 is not free. If you want to upgrade your 2008 Home and Student version to 2011 you have to pay an additional $100 to get the email program. It's like when the airlines sell you a ticket and ask, ?Oh did you want a seat with your flight??

    Next Google the keywords ?Office 2011 problems? and you'll get back a ton of pages. Again, Microsoft released a Beta-version and you get the privilege of paying to test out their software. Probably about a year from now when the updates are added it might be stable enough to use everyday or with serious documents.

    I guess it must be getting harder and harder to make a buck for the billionaires and millionaires at Microsoft. I'm glad I can do my community service by beta testing their product and handing over my greenbacks to keep the Microsoft monopoly going.
