Microsoft France says Windows Phone 7 NoDo to arrive in the second half of March

By | March 9, 2011, 10:57am PST

Summary: After March 8 — one of the most prevalent rumored dates for Microsoft’s “NoDo” update to Windows Phone 7 — came and went, many WP7 users were wondering what happened. The new word is the update is now coming in the second half of March.

After March 8 — one of the most prevalent rumored dates for Microsoft’s “NoDo” update to Windows Phone 7 — came and went, many WP7 users were wondering what happened.

To be fair, Microsoft officials never promised publicly that the first major WP7 update would hit yesterday. NoDo is supposed to deliver copy-and-paste, improved performance, better Marketplace search and other new features. CEO Steve Ballmer said during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February that Microsoft planned to release the first major update in “early March.”

When I asked Microsoft yesterday about NoDo’s whereabouts, I received no response.

On March 9, Microsoft France posted to its public-relations blog (FRogz.fr) a note claiming that NoDo will be coming in the second half of March 2011. There was no further word from that site as to what’s behind the push-back. (Microsoft did have problems with a minor WP7 update to the updating mechanism of the phone, which had led some to speculate that NoDo would come later rather than sooner.)

I asked Microsoft U.S. whether NoDo will be going to all WP7 users on some date in the second half of this month, or if this will be a staged rollout. So far, I’ve received no response, but will update this post if/when I do.

Update No. 1: Microsoft PR in the U.S. said they are “looking into” the NoDo update situation. More to come (I hope).

I heard from one of my WP7 contacts today that Microsoft’s new target date for the NoDo rollout is the week of March 21.

All I know is the drumbeat for Microsoft to get this update out there is getting louder and louder. Even some kind of explanation from Microsoft about what’s happening would go a long way, at this point, to calming the growing worries about WP7’s future.

his attention-grabbing write-up made me smile. Probably will need to genuinely you throw inside of a handful of photos it could make the complete issue extra engaging. Anyway, in my language, there nfl jerseys regularly quite often are not quite a bit decent provide you with similar to this.
Can't wait! I've ditched iPhone IOS and Android because I enjoy WP7 so much...They have done a sterling job(s)

@philaxis - Can't wait? But Microsoft will make you wait, just to get a phone that can Copy & Paste (every other phone OS already has C&P)

Things have run off the rails for Windows Phone 7. Updates for basic functionality are delayed. Full multitasking won't arrive until 2012.

Sales have slumped. Microsoft's total share of the mobile market has shrunk since Windows Phone 7 was released.

It's all heading in a negative direction. The same thing happened to Microsoft's Kin phones, which were eventually cancelled.
Well everyone better have the update by April 12th otherwise Joe Belfiore is going to have some 'splainin to do next month at MIX11.
"All I know is the drumbeat for Microsoft to get this update out there is getting louder and louder. Even some kind of explanation from Microsoft about what?s happening would go a long way, at this point, to calming the growing worries about WP7?s future."

My only thought is that they making sure this update goes smoother than the last one.
How about that, the NoDo is finally here. The CDMA carriers have to be happy about this. They can finally release their WP7 phones which will cause an increase in sales.
@Loverock Davidson

Which you don't own...remember...

"I can't wait to get one"...

Still waiting on you to actually get one Loverock...so until then stop spouting about how great it is, you haven't even purchased one.
@Brick Tamland..Why do you feel that one has to actually own a device in order to be impressed by it or to think that it is great? I don't own a WP7 device yet however, I've seen plenty of demonstrations of the functionality and I've actually tested a Focus in an ATT store...I think it is 'great' too and I will be purchasing a Nokia WP7 device! Conversely, there are folks who think WP7 is not so great and they don't own the device, let alone actually used one in an ATT/T-Mobile store. I don't think that someone needs to own a WP7 device (or any device) to form a favorable/unfavorable opinion.
@1019902735 You obviously do not know Loverock...he is the biggest MS shill, yet he uses Firefox. He's also been screaming about how he loves the WP7 since it was released, yet has not purchased on yet.

If you follow his antics you will know what I mean.
@Brick Tamland

Well I purchased 4 and have no complaints. As for Android and iPhone, the 20 century called - it wants its UI back.

Yay NoDo

@Loverock Davidson
Yay NoDo - let the bricking begin. What a dumb name NoDo. What is that supposed to mean? Sales cannot increase with people hearing there's a 10% chance of brick. Even my old non tech uncle knew about that. Then today I heard ads for win phone and said it can edit documents in office. Hows that supposed to work with no copy and paste capability.

Still waiting for pre-nodo patch
Alansonit 9th Mar 2011
Considering one of my buying reasons has been "seemless updates", i've been wholly unimpressed. Still waiting for my update notification on T-Mobile UK Omnia7. I know it was disabled but i've NEVER received the notification.

Get off your dead arse's Microsoft
missionsparta 9th Mar 2011
I don't care why it isn't out - GET IT OUT NOW. I am tired this Venue Pro that can't run for more than 30 seconds without crashing and now being told it is on your end and will not run until the 3x over delayed Microsoft Update. I have paid for the phone (out the nose) and am paying monthly dues for a phone THAT DOESNT WORK. Here is an idea, all you dead beats at Microsoft. Since those of us with a Venue Pro 16 gb can't use our phones, but are forced to still pay for them ... SEND US FREE HD7's UNTIL YOU GET YOUR GARBAGE IN GEAR. This will be going on almost 4 months since I got the phone if you wait till the 21st, AND I STILL CAN'T USE IT. They claim swapping the SD card works, but Dell is more concerned about trying to get out of their warranty contract than me having a working phone, and already threatened to void and warranty work if I try it (even though a monkey could do it). This is a complete disaster. SOMEONE AT MICROSOFT EITHER SHIP US WORKING PHONES OR GIVE ME AN UPDATE THAY FIXES MY PHONE NOW. AS OF RIGHT NOW YOU AND YOUR MOBILE PARTNERS HAVE TAKEN MY MONEY AND HAVE NOT GIVEN ME A WORKING PRODUCT IN EXCHANGE.... YOU ARE BOARDING ON LEGAL ACTION.
@missionsparta - sorry - calling bull$hit:

"I am tired this Venue Pro that can't run for more than 30 seconds without crashing".

If your phone is crashing that often, then ask for a replacement as it's most likely a hardware issue.

Chances are that NoDo won't fix whatever is causing your problems as it's a pretty minor update that just adds copy & paste, improves app-launch speed and fixes a few minor issues.

FWIW, you bought the phone directly from Dell - your issue is with them, not Microsoft.
@bitcrazed
Call BS? I have returned TWO. And now they are saying that it is on Microsoft and won't exchange anymore because they are calling it a software issue and no-exchange them will help.

This is on their own forum:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19358469.aspx

And if it is the software causing the crash (and they are claiming they worked with Microsoft and Microsoft has confirmed it is on their side) then it is no longer Dell's problem. You have no clue what you are talking about. So unless you have gone through what I have gone through, spent as much time on the phone and web looking for fixes and talking to techs, and spent all the money I have spent, to only still not have a working phone, then shut your trap, little boy.
@bitcrazed And according to the tech's at Dell, they have been told by Microsoft rep's that the next update does have fixes for the Venue Pro issue embedded within it. It is amazing you are calling BS with ZERO to go on. Only based on the fact that you want everyone to love this phone so much. Kind of hard to love it, when the damn thing won't run, clown.
@bitcrazed
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/cell-phones/are-dell-venue-pro-issues-related-to-microsd-cards-i-turned-mine-into-a-32gb-model/5405

Right there, ZDNET (the site you are on if you haven't figured it out) had the exact same problem I have been having and fixed it exactly how I said. But just like I said, he is stating they are going to void our warranties if we fix it. At least I have evidence backing my side, not just you claiming Microsoft Fan-ism.
@missionsparta Who told you that HD7 will be flawless. Guess all the WP7's are disaster. LG is not happy with its own product's sales, Samsung is having issues with pre-NoDo update, you have troubles with Dell Venue pro and HD7 owners are frustrated with its poor speakerphone, not to mention the frequent crashes. T-Mobile recognizes speakerphone issue as a known issue and claims that they have been providing the feedback to T-Mobile since Nov last year. They say they expect HTC to provide a firmware update to fix the issue but that HTC is not obligated to do that. HTC doesn't recognize it as a known issue, even though forum pages on their own websites are swamped with complaints. I challenged HTC Tech Support supervisor who goes by the name Megan to send me a phone that actually works, she promised that she will escalate the issue and let me know what is their position on this sometime in future. I actaully went to T-Mobile store and had them open 10 boxes of HTC HD7 and all of them had the same issue.
Hardware aside, even the software is less than half-baked with poor support from MS. I had high expectations with the advertised integration of WP7 with SharePoint. However, I can not sync my WP7 with my SSL (https) SharePoint server. Over two months have passed since I requested help on this from MS but don't think they have a clue. Initially I used to to get weekly calls from MS reminding me that they are looking into the issue now they don't even bother. Then I posted my question on much trumpeted answers.microsoft.com and some wizard there advised me to tinker with IE8 settings to get my WP7 sync with the SharePoint server. What a joke!

I am done with HTC, MS and T-Mobile. It's one thing to sell defective products and poor services and just another not to own responsibility for it and to offer a fix in a timely fashion. These gadgets have a meanlife time of not more that 2 years in the consumer's hands and if they expect to compete with the iOs's and Androids of the world by providing annual bug fixes and updates, good luck to them!
@wp7-user
Im not talking about low volume level or sales numbers... I am talking about a phone that CAN'T RUN FOR 30 SECONDS WITHOUT CRASHING. All the things you are talking about does not stop you from using the phone. The Dell Venue Pro cannot run for 30 seconds without crashing from a WiFi / SimCard compatability issue. I'd love to have a phone with low speaker volume or poor sales numbers.
Sometimes I don't think you people read the posts before you comment. The thing is a giant brick that does nothing unless you can get it done in 30 seconds or less!!!
@missionsparta

Raging like a lunatic isn't going to help you, only make you look more retarded. Sorry if I chuckle a little then move on.

Not to mention, most have a return policy, why didn't you act on it?

Thirdly, it sounds as if you have a bad phone. Had this been happening to more people, we would know about it, as people love to stomp others while they're down.
So, like I said, sorry if I chuckle, and then move on.

@Cylon Centurion 0005

that missionsparta is exaggerating. He says the phone crashes every 30 seconds yet goes back and gets 2 more.

I think this phone has issues but something else is going on here if his phone really is crashing every 30sec.
Looking forward on the nexxt update.
I am excited. The Marketplace is also growing fast.
Almost everyday,I am installing new apps to WindowsPhone7.
Microsoft FTW!!!

(Apple endorsements ruined the sitcom Big Bang Theory.)
Eh, I can wait. Not really caring that much.
I (with samsung focus) didnt, yet, get the first update to fix the update process. So, i'm guessing the first update is not rolled-out completely yet for them to start pushing the next one.

They can atleast be open about it. Being silent doesnt help at all.
HTC Mozart from Australia. I'd be happy just to get pre-nodo then I know that my phone update will work. Dont care about time delays once we have nodo as we then know that they can roll out the updates. Must say pretty unhappy as when I bought the phone it was supposed to be updates direct from MS and no carrier BS. I am one of the BIGGEST MS fans but even I am getting ready to ditch the phone if MS dont start telling us what is going on. Delays are fine, silence is just frustrating...
@vbgeezer All their over-paid executives, and they cannot provide even the slightest bit of information.

It's too bad cause their programmers came up with a pretty good looking platform. Im never an early adopter so Im gonna play the waiting game and stick with Android for awhile longer.
I heard that Microsoft will cancel Nodo pre-update, Nodo and Mango updates. All updates will be covered by Duke Nukem update which will blow competition away and will be released real soon now (like in 2020).

It is sad but MS Phone team now looks like a bunch of sad clowns.
@james347

Yes James, if you had any money and you weren't a minor or you were of sound mind and body, I'd take that bet. As it is, not really any point.

Updates are good
PriMinister 10th Mar 2011
I have the HTC Mozart phone, it works fine about 98 per cent of the time, but at lease once a day it will either freeze, or reboot. I dont know if noDo will fix it but but I am hopfull.

My problems are not as bad as yours @missionsparta. but I do sympathise.

Other than my minor problem I love this phone and look forward to other features, like SQL CE to be made available to devs to use on the phone. I am tired of XML as storage as I want a more robust option.
