Microsoft: XP SP3 RTM date a typo

By | April 2, 2008, 12:39pm PDT

Some sharp-eyed folks over at Neowin.net noticed Microsoft had posted to its Support Live Cycle Web site a release-to-manufacuturing date of March 31, 2008, for Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3.

Microsoft: XP SP3 RTM date a typo

Microsoft officials told me on April 2 the date was a typo and that XP SP3 still has not RTM’d.

(I am posting this as a number of readers have sent me pointers to Neowin and other sites reporting the published RTM date.)

Microsoft’s exact wording in response to my query about the March 31 RTM date on its site:

“The March 31st date you saw for Windows XP SP3 RTM on Microsoft.com is incorrect. This information was published due to a site publisher error, and Microsoft is currently working to update the site. The final version of Windows XP SP3 is still on target to be released the first half of calendar year 2008.”

if the wait the goes on is not due to marketing (of Vista)rather than technical (of XP SP3) considerations ?...

That's why people use slipstreamers like RyanVM to build install images.
No one wants to hammer their network with 92+ patches--or let a pc leave a shop with just sp2.

of course they're delaying sp3 to encourage sales of vista.

it's impossible to wean someone off an operating system. you have to make them take the plunge, like ripping off a band-aid in one pull.

I would say that you can expect XP-SP3 to be RTM'd on 'Super Tuesday'in May 2008.

The reason for this assumption is that its already in the beta 2 stage to beta testers.

Kind Regards,

I've been running SP3 v 3264 since February. You Have to run IE7 or revert to the original .dll{I can't remember the exact name}to run IE6. Outside of a Rastman error in event viewer, it runs quite well.

In all the years I've been dealing with Microsoft (since 1981), they have only hit their RTM date once and that was DOS 3. Their dates are only projected dates subject to change.

"Yes we planned to release SP3 on March 31 but as usual we were unable to meet our deadline and we've now decided to specify the deadline as 'sometime in the future' or otherwise as vague as possible since we're unsure when we'll be able to get our act together and finish up the service pack"

Windows 7 will deliver a lot of new features that make it a proper successor to Windows Vista despite the fact that it?s quite clearly costumes an evolutionary update rather than a revolutionary change. We expect most businesses will find compelling reasons for an eventual upgrade,

A typical monopolistic racketeering sales tactic that has a longstanding history. wholesale lingerie is time for this company to be made illegal so that simplified competitive systems can emerge. Who needs five hundred different typefaces etc.? It's an idiot program for people who have nothing else to do but to click through their empty lives.
