Verizon getting iPhone? Not that rumor again

By | June 29, 2010, 8:38pm PDT

Summary: It’s the same old rumor coming around again. This time I’ve detailed out three reasons why I think it’s just a rumor.

The rumor mill has launched the “Verizon getting the iPhone” buzz again. This time it was apparently launched out of a Bloomberg article. As always, Verizon and Apple aren’t commenting, and the sources with the info don’t want to be named.

I have a hard time believing that Verizon is going to get the iPhone. Here’s why:

1. Apple continues to report record breaking numbers of sales on the AT&T network, despite the constant complaints of the quality of the network. This leads me to believe that Apple will hold on to its exclusivity for a while longer.

2. Verizon and Google are very tight right now, with even more Android devices coming. Why would Verizon want Apple on board when it has a great partner like Google cranking out new phones and innovations at a record pace?

3. If Verizon was going to get an iPhone at all, it wouldn’t be until its LTE network was up and running. The company plans to have it in about 30 markets by end of year, which would put handsets available on the network in mid-2011 or so.

We’ll see what happens, but my guess is that it’s just a rumor at this stage. If it’s not, would you pick one up? Sam Diaz has put together a

Good day to confirm this comment I would appreciate T h e b e s t o f Z D N e t d e l i v e r e d your website very nice to everyone Yes, Oracle is the only one with shared-disk architecture, but that is there advantage. It means you can add or remove nodes and the database lives on. In a shared nothing architecture, if you lose a node, you lose the system. I'm sure Oracle appreciates EMC highlighting their advantage.I also desire to signal in your RSS feeds. Thank you as soon as once again and maintain up the great operate Awesome post! Thank you very much || thanks for nice content this is really benefit to me.

i like this phrase from his disclaimer " Joel has consulted for Microsoft?s Windows Mobile division ..."

but back on topic:

1. what kind of logic is that? windows mobile enthusiast logic? they are dissatisfied with att's network and therefore will hold on to it?

2. verizon will offer the iphone because their customers want it. (studies show that more than 50% of verizon customers would buy an iphone). simple business 101.

3. no, lte is still off. won't make much sense to offer lte phones before summer of 2011, when an lte iphone will come out.

this information is basically freezing the market for android phones on verizon. sure some geeks and apple haters will still go on buying android, the majority of verizon customers however will wait for their iphone.

i don't expect a former windows mobile consultant to understand that, when apple out of the cold not only destroyed microsoft's play in this field but probably also reduced the possibilities of the author to "advise other companies on how to incorporate mobile into their existing brands and products." (from the disclaimer again).

Why would apple want to limit it's self to AT&T any longer. There market is saturated, yes they will sell new versions to those who have already bought in. But they will not get many new customers. Those who will jump shipmto AT&T already have. The most telling sign that the exclusive deal is nearing it's end is AT&T allowing existing customer to purchase discounted iPhones before that current contract is completed. Thus locking them in for another two years. Not sure if it is verizon but I think it is pretty clear that another IS carrier is going to be selling iPhones soon.

@jhuddle This leads me to think that right now, Verizon would want Apple to get its act together and have better QC before they'd scottsdale chiropractor take the iPhone on.

Another point would be for Apple to open up to Verizon would require a totally different radio just for Verizon, while the world uses the one currently made. Why bother, especially considering that Verizon is moving to LTE.

I do believe when Verizon has their LTE system fully operational, some time in 2012, most likely Apple and Verizon will talk and virginia beach chiropractor come to an agreement bringing the iPhone to Verizon by 2013, or even the summer of 2012. At that time, we'll see if Verizon has managed to make their network robust enough to handle the quantity of data traffic handled by AT&T now.
Agreed, Verizon isn't getting the iPhone any time soon.

I agree with each of your points and would add a couple.

Apple has its hands full with the iPhone 4 and its new iOS4, both of which have serious woes. At this point it seems to me the poor network service of the iPhone 4 has much more to do with the iPhone than AT&T. I get great service in my area with AT&T, but those who have the iPhone 4, who I know here, are having dropped calls and call failures by the dozens every day. I also have heard from many who upgraded their 3GS phone who claim they see their battery meter actually drop as they watch (not me).

This leads me to think that right now, Verizon would want Apple to get its act together and have better QC before they'd take the iPhone on.

I wish to switch to a stable, well tested Verizon Phone. CHeck the increase in monthly bill - if acceptabe. And the price of the Verizon iPhone.

I am ready when they a very stable, function rich iPhone for us Verizon customers.

Need more information on carrier costs and iPhone for Verizon cost.

This should help Apple in the long wrong and take that horrid company AT&T out of the implementation of iPhone for smart cell phone users (smart users)..
