5 geek gifts I would like to find under the tree this year

Summary: The geek in your life would be happy finding any of these five gifts under the tree this year.

ZDNet 2011 Holiday Gift Guide It's that time of year when my family scratches its collective heads trying to figure out what to get me for Christmas. I am the hardest person on the planet to buy for, given my total geekiness and the fact I see most every lust-worthy gadget through the course of my job. Even though I see so many cool gadgets throughout the year, there are five things I wouldn't mind finding under the tree this year. I present my wish list in no particular order.

ASUS Transformer Prime with laptop dock. I am in the camp that believes you can't have enough tablets, and the Transformer Prime is on my "want to have" list. That Tegra 3 quad-core processor is hot, and is even better encased in a thin, light slate form. Throw in the laptop dock that turns this thing into a serious writing machine and it is no surprise the Transformer Prime makes my list. Let's hope the rumors it is delayed until next year are unfounded.

MacBook Air. The 13-inch MacBook Air is on my wish list, and not the entry level model. No, for me only the top configuration: 1.8 GHz Core i7 processor. That baby would fly, and I wouldn't mind finding it under the tree on Christmas morning.

MacBook Air sleeve from Vaja. That MacBook Air would look good nestled in this leather sleeve from Vaja. The rich leather used in Vaja cases is buttery smooth, and this sleeve would look stylish stepping out with the MBA. It's not cheap but then, I'm worth it.

Mophie Juice Pack Air. My iPhone 4S is not suffering from battery problems like some, but I could see the need for some extra juice when traveling. The extended battery case from Mophie is the gold standard when it comes to making the iPhone battery last longer. I love the way it becomes a thin case for the iPhone while almost doubling the battery life. That it also charges the phone battery while keeping it going is just icing on the cake.

Booq Mamba Shift backpack. A good pack to carry lots of gadgets around is priceless, especially when someone gives you one for the holidays. The Booq Mamba Shift M is the perfect combination of small size and rugged construction to keep everything safe and easily accessible. The thin profile is perfect for all day excursions and business trips.

Remember, James, that at this time of the year, it is FAR FAR better to give than to receive so do yourself a favor and send me that MacBook Air. You'll feel good. I'll feel good. And, I promise, when I write the next great All American Novel with that MBA, I will include your name on my dedication page. How can you beat that?
  • I'll be lucky if I can put up a tree this year

Let alone find anything under it. But what's new (other than this country's newfangled, one-world constitution)?

I guess ZDnet is catering to the Rich people of the world

The iphone case seems like a crazy stupid idea! A replaceable battery makes sense, but a charging case thing just seems dumb.
    Schoolboy Bob
  • Mac Air

    Oops...Never mind.

  • better headline...

would be: "I'm a materialistic f**k and instead of helping the needy you should be buying ME shit!"
Good message to keep spreading, because, well, that IS what the retailers want you to buy into.
    Sound about right?
    • 'martian@ the marxist'

You sound like a petty jealous marxist OWS piece of typical leftwing scum. You apparently have no sense of humor and no appreciation for the joys of this season and/or America. Why not pack up & move to Cuba or some other "workers paradise" where life on earth is more up to your personal standards. P**ck.
