Best phone of CES 2012: Nokia Lumia 900

Summary: Nokia is bringing the Lumia 900 to the U. S. with AT&T, and it is the best phone shown at the CES.

SHARE:

Phones aren't the main focus of the CES this week but one caught my eye as the best of those in attendance. Nokia showed off the Lumia 900, and it looks like a fantastic Windows Phone with outstanding hardware, design, and software. The Lumia 900 will be coming to AT&T in the U. S. and is the best Nokia phone since the partnership with Microsoft with Windows Phone.

The clean hardware design encases a 1.4 GHz processor and a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display. Every demo I have seen of the display shows off the Windows Phone screen in bright, vivid detail. The front 1MP camera brings video calling to Windows Phone, and the 8MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics (F2.2 aperture) may be the best on any smartphone.

The Lumia 900 will operate on the AT&T LTE network, which unfortunately may task the 1830 mAh battery. The 14.5GB of internal memory is not expandable due to the lack of a memory slot, but will likely be sufficient for most buyers with the included SkyDrive cloud storage. While the Lumia 900 doesn't have the best hardware on a smartphone, it is the best phone running Windows Phone.

No word on when the Nokia Lumia 900 will be available from AT&T, nor pricing. This is definitely the Windows Phone to beat.

You have seen only demos and it does not have expandable storage but it is the best???
Perhaps if you put in your title "Best Windows Phone" you would not get so many hits but would have been honest.
You just joined Ed Bott on my ignore list.

@kirovs@... Seeing that most users don't use expandable storage...nonfactor. Also, there's more to a device than just internal specs.

What do you base that on?

@Zedox - I agree but I think it is a riot fest that Windows shills who screamed and SHOUTED about the iPhone missing external memory expansion now find it's OK since the WinPho has copied Apple's 'less is more' design method.

    • Heard the old song "It does not have this, that, or the other thing"

@kirovs@... before. What with being an Apple fan and all I heard it a great deal about the iPhone and yes even iPad. Still look at all those sales!!! Seems what is important to one might not be important to others so there you go. End of lesson.

@James Quinn By that reasoning Twilight is one of the best movies of all time no matter what any critic says. If the issue is "best" vs. "most popular", then specs count. You're engaging in a strawman by bringing up sales in a discussion of "best".

@James Quinn Just because something is popular doesn't make it the best. Just look at 'your' idol Barack Obama, he 'was' popular but turns out he is one of the worst presidents ever.
Windows phone isn't popular 'yet', but it is the best phone OS out there.

      • If you read my reply and the post I was replying too

@mikroland2.0... you'd see I was defending the windows phone. Silly. As for Obama i'd say history will show he's been a very good President perhpas even one of the best. As President he's had a lot to deal with and done well so far.

@kirovs@... No expandable storage and still the best. That's how good this Nokia Lumia 900 with Windows Phone is. Perhaps not for you, but in general, yes.

@Watchmen247 ... his comments and observation. Oh you did however place an insult in your very limited reply.. Yeah that's the ticket. How about putting some counter arguments into your next attempt?
