Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 7.7: Super AMOLED Plus goodness

By | September 1, 2011, 5:36am PDT

Summary: Samsung has unveiled the newest member of the Galaxy Tab family, the Tab 7.7. The Super AMOLED Plus display is a first for a tablet. The new Tab is now the thinnest tablet, beating out the Tab 10.1.

Samsung took time out of its defense efforts with litigation versus Apple to hit the IFA show in Germany and unveil some new products that push the envelope. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a major refresh over the 7-inch Galaxy Tab and the new 7.7-inch tablet packs a Super AMOLED Plus display. This high-resolution screen (1280×800) is undoubtedly the best tablet screen on the market currently.

The new Tab squeezes a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, up to 64GB of storage, two cameras and a 10-hour battery in a package that is thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1. This makes the new Tab 7.7 the thinnest tablet on the market.

The new tablet from Samsung runs Honeycomb 3.2 with the company’s TouchWiz shell on top, similar to that currently found on the 10.1. The Tab 7.7 looks in photos to be very much like the bigger Tab 10.1, only thinner and lighter. Samsung is not providing pricing details for the Tab 7.7 at the IFA show, and availability is in the “coming months”.

Beautiful, but still considered a toy as it doesn't stand a chance in both productivity and entertainment against my Windows PC+iPhone combo silly

Frankly, until we have tablets like the Lenova Thinkpad running Windows Ei8ht, the top tablet toy will be the iPad.
But does it have an SD card slot? Without that it's DOA.

Does iPad have USB port? Without that, it's DOA.
But can it cook food for me ? Without that it is DOA

The "coming months" sounds an awful lot like "2012" to me... that's an ETERNITY in this market. Sounds like a good product, but 4-6 months is way too far away.
