Novatel has informed me that the MiFi 4082 is now available from Sprint online and will be in Sprint stores on April 17th. I have been testing the MiFi for a couple of weeks and it is good solution for getting devices onto the Sprint 4G (WiMAX) network. Sprint offers the MiFi for $79.99 with a two-year commitment for service. The data plans start at $49.99.

The MiFi has performed nicely during my testing and allows up to 5 devices to connect to the Sprint 4G network over WiFi. It drops down to use the Sprint 3G (EVDO Rev. A) network when 4G coverage is not available. It runs 4 hours on a charge and can also be connected to laptops via a USB cable for connections when the battery is depleted.

The device can be configured using a web browser on any device connected to the MiFi; network settings can be tailored to the user's equipment and preferences. The MiFi 4082 has a microSD slot that can be used for shared storage of up to 32 GB. It runs the Novatel MiFi OS that brings widgets and applications to the MiFi environment.

The Sprint monthly data plan for $49.99 offers unlimited 4G connectivity and up to 5GB of 3G per month.

This is what I want, but in an Android tablet or Android phone. I have little use for voice -- $100/yr for a prepaid burner more than meets my voice needs.

Normally Sprint charges $10 extra for 4G, is this fixed $49.99 or do we have to pay extra $10 for 4G?

I wish this blog was more thoroughly written, there is simply not enough information to make an informed decision.

@Rick_K <br>I agree. And I checked Sprint site and it is $59.99 per month not $49.99, that concludes they are charing extra $10.00 for 4G connectivity. I live in a place where opposite side of the road gets 4G and my home gets only 3G, so for not having 4G I have to pay extra $10.00 per month and Sprint happily charges me that amount for not providing me constant 4G in my area. And I know their 4G is not available everywhere. I wonder why they are charging $10.00 4G surcharge when there is no 4G service available at most of the places. I know MiFi is mobile hotspot, but still I feel sprint shouldn't charge that $10.00 for not guaranteeing 4G everywhere.

    James,

Given that Sprint already sells the Sierra Wireless Overdrive, do you see any advantages with the new Novatel device over it?

@aabramson@... Andy, I find the much quicker network connections to be a big plus over my original Overdrive.
