HTC made a splash earlier this year with the unveiling of its 7-inch tablet, the HTC Flyer. This is the first Android tablet to get pen input in addition to the standard touch screen. Sprint today announced it will be carrying the Flyer, aka the HTC EVO View 4G, starting this summer.

The 7-inch tablet will ship with Gingerbread that has HTC Sense enhancements to further the branding and distinguish the View from other Android tablets. The display uses the NTrig digitizer which allows both touch input and the use of a special pen for pointing and handwriting. HTC has previously shown its Scribe technology that allows handwriting in certain apps, including Evernote.

HTC EVO View 4G specifications:

  • 1.5GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon® Processor
  • Dimensions: 7.7 inches (195.4 mm) x 4.4 inches (112.5 mm) x 0.5 inches (13.2 mm)
  • Weight: 14.88 ounces (421.84 grams)
  • Display: 7-inch (177.8 mm), 1024 x 600 touchscreen display with pinch-to-zoom
  • 32GB internal memory, 1GB RAM; microSD slot (supports up to 32GB memory card)
  • Battery: 4000 mAh Lithium-ion battery

The View 4G will operate on both 3G and 4G networks on Sprint. The carrier has not divulged pricing for the View 4G, but a subsidized price with a contract would be the norm.

Are these mini-tabs also phones? I can never tell from the summary specs if there is a phone in the architecture or if you have to carry a 7" EVO tab along with your 4.3" EVO 4G smartphone.

@spyder3010 I don't think it's a phone. I've following the Flyer for a while and nobody has ever mentioned a phone. The Asus MeMo will be a phone though. It looks like I will be carrying around a Evo 3D and View this summer.

I would want this if it could also be used as a phone. Is it too big for a phone? Yes, except I always use my bluetooth headset to talk on the phone, anyway.

@hiraghm@... I agree, too big for a phone, but if it can get through a full work day on B/T, that wouldn't matter. I, too, would take this all-in-one option. Oh, it will also have to have a NETFLIX app for instant queue streaming.
