Updated: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with LTE will be available from Verizon on July 28. The Galaxy Tab will be the first tablet with integrated LTE to be available to customers. While the Verizon 4G LTE network is rapidly rolling out, coverage is not widespread so once you leave a covered urban area you will be looking for 3G coverage or Wi-Fi hotspots. According to Verizon the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does have a CDMA (3G) radio inside meaning it can fall back to 3G coverage when out of 4G areas.
Verizon will be offering the 4G Galaxy Tab in the following configurations:
- Wi-Fi only (16GB) - $499.99
- 4G (16GB) - $529.99
- 4G (32GB) - $629.99
The tablet will require one of three 4G data plans depending on data usage allowed monthly before overage fees kick in:
- $30 monthly access for 2GB monthly allowance
- $50 monthly access for 5GB monthly allowance
- $80 monthly access for 10GB monthly allowance
Verizon smartphones and mobile hotspot devices all have both 3G and 4G capability, meaning at least EVDO coverage is available in most areas, with 4G in major urban areas. With the integrated 3G capability, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 can have mobile data connectivity in areas not covered by Verizon’s 4G network. Owners can use the Wi-Fi connectivity, or 3G as necessary.
