TraxA BT Trax analysis of site data since the start of the year shows that Sophos is number one in overall reader consideration for email security, achieved from a modest asset base of 4% of resources in our IT Directory. Webroot and CipherTrust are a close 2nd & 3rd from smaller asset bases. The largest vendors, Microsoft and CA, have the most coverage, but only CA has meaningful consideration among IT professionals downloading email security resources.

Keep in mind that levels of consideration for each of the smaller players are not entirely organic, but due to promotions of vendor content. Nevertheless, we know that promoting white papers and Webcasts clearly has a return, as these findings illustrate.

These findings are based on a comparison of downloads per vendor title in email security-related categories among the top overall downloaded vendor resources in those categories from January 2005 to the present.

This study is a follow-up to a post last month about how small security vendors like Sophos, Webroot, and CipherTrust are stealing all the security attention on TechRepublic.
