Google has eradicated those bogus malware sites from its search results.

As noted by Sunbelt Software on Monday and Tuesday, Google search results were being gamed by hackers. The goal: Get you to visit a malware loaded site.

Late Wednesday, Sunbelt followed up with a few more comments.

The takeaways:

  • Google nixed the malware sites from its search results;
  • The attack was apparently focused at Google;
  • And Sunbelt called the attack crafty.

Sunbelt's blog post has some specific JavaScript code worth checking out for those of you that know what you're looking at. Disclosure: I don't.

Sunbelt referred to the attack as SEO poisoning. I wonder if that's something we'll see more of in 2008.
