A press release came across my desk announcing Evergrid Cluster Availability Management Suite. Since information about this software has been up on the Evergrid Website for a while, I was working with the understanding that it was a released product when I published Evergrid - High Performance Computing in the Enterprise a short while ago. An "early availability release" was available then. The general release is available now. It's clear the company wanted to help those needing software that provides uninterrupted availability as well as resource management for batch-oriented high performance/Grid computing environments to obtain it quickly.

Evergrid's products are based upon a very simple idea, insert a layer in between the operating system and all supported applications, application frameworks, development tools, data management tools and the like. What good is this, you ask? Very good question. Simple idea, when implemented, means that each and every call to the operating system, regardless of the purpose can be examined and re-directed if necessary. Applications no longer have to be "instrumented" to provide the capability to capture a snapshot while the application is running so that it can be rehosted or restarted when needed.

As I mentioned in my previous post, if your organization could adopt Grid computing techniques for improved performance and higher application availability without restructuring applications, would you be more likely to create and deploy a Grid?
