Dell said on Tuesday it will acquire software-as-a-service (SaaS) company Boomi to boost its efforts in the cloud.

Boomi's core service is to provide integration between on-premise applications and cloud-based ones. It offers this service through its own 'Boomi AtomSphere' technology, which is an application hosted in the cloud that integrates on and off-premise applications with each other.

AtomSphere was introduced in 2007 and is used by companies such as Salesforce to help their applications work together, according to the company's website.

Dell said in a statement that it believes Boomi's base of cloud integration products will help it persuade businesses to move to web-based computing.

"Dell gives us the global platform to continue to scale Boomi AtomSphere as the leading integration solution in the SaaS and cloud computing industry", said Bob Moul, Boomi's president and chief executive officer in a statement.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
