Google Chat, Drive down for some; other services look unaffected

Google Chat, Drive down for some; other services look unaffected

Summary: UPDATE 6x: Everything should be back to normal by now, according to the Google Apps team.

If you're experiencing trouble with accessing Google Drive or Talk this morning, you're not alone.

Service has been spotty for some Google account users, both for general/personal accounts as well as paid Google Apps for business customers.

I can vouch for Google Talk trouble first hand as I have not been able to access the cloud-based communication service starting just before 9AM PDT on Monday.

However, I was able to access Google Drive perfectly normal.

Yet, the Google Apps Status dashboard still reads business as usual as of the time this post was first published.

ZDNet has reached out to Google for comment, and we will update this post once we hear back.

UPDATE: The Google Apps Dashboard has been updated to display a service disruption for Google Talk and Google+ Hangouts. The problem also appears to be international as ZDNet's Charlie Osborne, based in the United Kingdom, also informed me she was confronted with error messages about server errors for approximately 30 minutes.

UPDATE 2: Google responded and referred us back to the Apps Dashboard for further information. So we'll all be on that same page for the time being.

UPDATE 3: Google Sheets (short for spreadsheets) has been added to the list of Google services plagued by a service disruption this morning.

UPDATE 4: Google appears to be hard at work still on repairing these services. Here's the latest update posted to the Apps Status Dashboard, which can be applied for Talk, Sheets and Hangouts:

Google Talk service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change.

UPDATE 5: Sheets should be back in action, but Google is still hammering out whatever happened to Talk and Hangouts.

The Internet giant hasn't publicly identified the source of this morning's outages, but here's the latest progress report:

The problem with Google Sheets should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.

UPDATE 6: Everything should be back to normal by now, according to the Google Apps team.
